What martial art fits alongside boxing the best?

I am a boxer who now wants to learn another martial art. Which one would fit alongside my boxing skills best and flow well with it?|||I am a believer in being prepared for different real world situations. And in the real world, you will not always have the luxury of maintaining the range to throw a punch or kick. This means once it gets close and personal, you will have to wrestle/grapple. Find a good school that teaches grappling such as jujitsu, wrestling, sambo, shuai jiao, etc.|||you can go two ways, either make yourself a rounded fighter with kicks and grappling, or hone your strong point so that you can fend off well rounded fighters. for the well rounded, i would suggest mma, as for honing your strength, i would suggest wing chun, fanzi quan, or both as the world record for most punches in a minute at 442 belongs to a wing chun instructor|||Boxers and thai boxers have a big fault in it they stand in front of u if u stand sideways it would be harder to hit u . And u can just throw a front kick and u got them and u can keep doing it i recomend u do karate , taekwando , kungfu , kenpo, or krav maga

krav maga is simular to boxing but there are no rules witch means it helps u for self defence|||Do some Jiu-Jitsu or Wrestling. You may have the advantage standing up, but once it's on the ground it could be over for you.

To accompany your boxing you could try some Muay Thai for those devastating kicks, knees and elbows.|||You could try out Muay Thai (Thai Kickboxing).

Since boxing covers all punches, there's no other martial art that covers it as good as boxing, so for something that will improve attacks and strikes with your legs.

What are some methods of boxing against a taller fighter?

Been boxing for a few years. When I spar against a taller person w/ longer reach than me it gives me all kinds of trouble. Any suggestions?|||side to side and a lot of body punch, lower the better(legally).

Lower your stance even lower than normal(comfortably)

this will force him to have to reach out to you.

When he start doing this, give a good uppercut|||Side step, head movement. You have to evade and work your way inside, creating angles is key. You have to limit distance between taller opponents. Nullify their reach advantage. You can't try to stand straight up and throw with a taller opponent, their reach advantage will pick you apart. You have to cut it down, and get inside|||beset thing to do is work urself inside in close range and stay there usually tall fighters dont like that cuz they want to keep u at a punching reach|||Hide a chain saw in one of your gloves. Then take a low shot, about knee height, and cut of the lower half of both his legs.If the ref is fair,he will only deduct one point for a low blow but it will be well worth it.Beware the blood spurting into your eyes and you should get a win on cuts or you should be able to box his ears orf.Dont hug any of your corner men in the ecstasy of winning,as you might have an awfully expensive lawsuit to answer.|||do not try jabbing, and stick to the inside and work body, head movement is key, and work on ur punch slipping. I got my jaw dislocated in a boxing match against a dude that was way taller than me. fighting a tall guy sux.

How much will it hurt boxing if Floyd vs Pac is not ever made?

Is there even a fight out there right now that you even care about other than Pac vs. Money? I really think boxing will suffer a lot if the fight never happens.

Your thoughts?|||I think it will definitely hurt boxing if the fight isn't made. It's really the only fight that matters right now in the sport. I think Haye vs Wladimir would've been interesting but outside of that, what other fight is out there to get the juices flowing? The 168lb tourney is nice, and the 140lb division has great talent, but let's be realistic, the casual fans don't even know those guys, that's why they gotta find a way to get this thing done ASAP. The buzz of Pac vs. Mayweather is tremendous. I mean, how many times do the top 2 P4P fighters in the world that are in the SAME weight classs and are at their peaks get to faceoff? This may not happen again for another 25 years! I think boxing suffers a great deal if this fight isn't made.|||The fight promises to be the biggest payday in the history of the sport. The truth of the matter is that even though pundits love to proclaim boxing is a dying sport, worldwide it is projected to be the second largest athletic form. And believe me, as wrapped up as America and parts of Britain are in Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao, the rest of the world would not be affected if their fight does not happen. Boxing would survive just fine.|||Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather are the only remaining boxing superstars today as well as the sport's biggest draws and it's rare that the fight game's top two performers are in the same weight class. Them not fighting would be a big disappointment for fight fans especially in the USA and the Philippines.

But even the great Muhammad Ali said before that nobody, not even him at the height of his still unmatched popularity and success, could be even be bigger than boxing. So I will say that that fight not pushing through would not sound the death toll for boxing world-wide.

In fact, I think it would even expand and intensify the search and quest for the next boxing superstars from among the budding stars whose own chance at hitting the big time is being setback by the generally American and Filipino boxing fans obsession with the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight which I believe is being super hyped up by the promoters, the major USA networks and the fighters themselves, particularly Floyd.

Could it be that many of us are only made to believe that it is the biggest, most important super-fight in history on account of the constant publicity bombardment coming mostly from the capitalist media of the USA.? The USA could be the richest boxing market and the Philippines apart from producing some of the best boxers, has the most vocal and active boxing fan bases in the world. But then the USA and the Philippines do not constitute the boxing world.

Last I heard, Indonesia is still a Chris John country, Thailand, A Pongsaklek country and Japan as well as other major boxing countries in Asia, Europe and South and Central Americas remain faithful and partitically patronizing to their own. They care not much about a Floyd-Pacquiao so-called biggest fight in history not pushing through.|||All because of Floyd Junior's admixture of cowardice (laced with racism) will cause further division amongst us and institutionalize that very cowardice as a "virtue".....therefore..pussifiying the sport for many generations to come...It's not getting any better...It's getting worse...

......

This is the direction it will "Definitely" head towards, if floyd junior refuses to step in the ring with Manny Pacquiao...|||it will hurt boxing but

still up way above MMA.

MMA will always be below boxing

even after pac and floyd retires

is there a way you can make floyd

sign the contract so no hurting will

happen? cuz everybody wins, boxing,

the fans, pac....|||IT WILL JUST STAY WHERE IT'S AT THAT FIGHT WOULD TAKE BOXING TO THE NEXT LEVEL LIKE WHERE IT WAS BACK IN THE DAY LIKE THE 70s, 80s AND 90s

BUT BOXING WILL NEVER DIE IT'S HERE TO STAY YEA IT WILL HURT IT IF IT DOESN'T HAPPEN BUT THERE ARE OTHER GREAT SUPERSTARS AND A LOT OF YOUNG FUTURE SUPERSTARS SO BOXING WILL BE OK|||About as much as Larry Holmes and George Foreman did when they didn't fight, which really didn't hurt boxing at all.|||It won't hurt boxing at all. Don't get fooled by Arum. Boxing will move on with its other stars. Manny and Floyd are just the stars on the spotlight now.|||the sport will survive but that's not good! dana white will be laughing like a damn hyena, and will pull out his "boxing is dead" tee shirts, like the fat chump he is.|||boxing will die, just how it will die after that fight takes place even if it does take place.|||it well hurt the industry of boxing but there are up in coming contenders.|||I do not even slightly care if the fight happens or not.|||it would hurt boxing..

We the boxing fans will be most hurt.|||idiots

Why has the sport of boxing taken the backseat to this new wave of fighting?

Will you miss the significance of watching title fights to determine who the heavyweight champion of the world will be? Please explain why you think this has happened, and if you think boxing will ever return. Thanks to all who answer.|||Has boxing really lost its audience, or has MMA simply found a whole new audience?

I don't know anyone who gave up being a fan of boxing to watch the UFC. I know people who never cared for boxing who love MMA though. Embarrassingly, I think a lot of MMA fans come from the fans of pro wrestling, rather than of pro boxing.|||Boxing is still pretty popular from what I can see. UFC is just a fad right now. Boxing will have an even stronger come back though. Just wait and see. Patience is a virtue.|||I Personally feel people like MMA because it incorporates all aspects of fighting where as boxing is just stand up and even it's stand up is not as intense as MMA because it doesn't incorporate every limb. I don't think either sport will ever fully take over but if it were too happen boxers will probabbly become Mixed martial artists - many boxers already do. So to answer your question i believe boxing has taken backseat because MMA is more of a thrill to watch i think that MMA is just growing in popularity but i wouldn't expect it to go away any time soon, ever since ufc/mma has become popular it's done nothing but rise in popularity it will have it's ups and downs but mma will most likely be on top. Boxing had a good run but now theres just something more interesting. It's all fighting but it's kind of like comparing floor hockey to ice hockey. Same sport but ice hockey is just more fun to watch.|||Boxing is taking a backseat right now due to the lack of marquee bouts

there hasnt been a high-profile fight where the fighter(s) is known around the world since probly tyson lets face it they dont have any superfights coming up either since pacquiao and mayweather isnt gonna happen|||Boxing isn't taking a back seat. The fact is that both sports can coexist. I'm a MMA fan and practitioner. I'm also a huge fan of boxing, grew up on it. The difference is that boxing has gotten a reputation for corruption and fixing fights. Boxing also doesn't carry as many big names as they used to. It happens from time to time. Right now, there is only one fight in boxing people want to see...Mayweather vs. Pacman. Also, there are too many weightclasses and belts in boxing. People don't know who or what to follow. While MMA has different organizations, there is only one belt per class in each org. making it easier to follow. Another reason is MMA PPV events will give you 5-8 fights for your money, whereas boxing gives only 2 or 3. People want more bang for their buck. I wouldn't call MMA a fad, as it has existed for 17 years. It's been hugely popular for 5 years. Fads only last a year tops. This is more than a fad, it's a sport. It doesn't seem to be declining in popularity any time soon. MMA puts on exciting fights and try to give the fans what they want to see. So I guess you could say, MMA is more about the fans than boxing.|||They don't have the quality of contenders they once did. Most of the really good ones are retired or way past their prime. People got tired of rigged fights too. The homosexual community probably gets the support of the UFC for obvious reasons. I think boxing will return but it will never be the same due to its competition. Alot of people like to watching a wet blanket contest. Boxing will also need a new PR campaign and some exciting heavyweights like past boxer foreman, tyson, holyfield, etc.|||Boxing has had a lot of scandals in it in the last 15 to 20 years , so you can't tell who is legitimate and who is the real deal. Until Boxing cleans itself up (which I do not know that it can do) it is going to be a second class sport.|||Boxing is losing steam right now because there aren't enough talented fighters to keep it interesting. Short of Mayweather - Paquiao. there aren't a lot of fights that would be really popular.

Also, the way boxing is run, it's rare to see two really big, top notch fighters go at it for fear of losing a fight. And it's so convoluted with so many weight classes and organizations giving belts at the like. There are no undisputed champions.

If boxing streamlined it's belts and there was more talent out there, it would gain popularity again.|||Because boxing isn't nearly as complex or as dangerous as something like MMA.

In my opinion all of the rules and the lack of variation as opposed to mixed martial arts makes it less interesting. Sure, I could watch a guy punch another guy in the face and then punch him in the gut, or I could change the channel to UFC and see someone jump kick another guy in the chin.|||because boxing has become boring. Guys build up a record fighting tomato cans and then they fight a real guy on PPV after they get ranked.

You watch boxing on TV, and only the 4 round fights between

nobodies are any good.

You watch main event guys and they dance for 12 rounds.

You can diss the quality of MMA fighters compared with boxing, but at least MMA guys come to fight!

If I want to watch dancing,

I'll watch dancing. MMA has become hot because boxing is boring and pro wrestling is starved for ideas (let's see, wrestler A hits up on wrestler B's galpal, so the jealous wrestler B hits wrestler A with a chair, oh no we did that already!) And how many more

times does the Undertaker have to be world champion before he retires?

What are the benefits of boxing as a way of working out?

I'm a 22 year old female %26amp; just started boxing as a form of working out.|||Excellent cardio workout. It also works muscles that other exercises have a hard time targeting.

Ever seen a boxer's abs? There's a reason they look like that.|||Helps get rid of those extra teeth and brain cells.|||It's excelent because you sweat so much you burn lots of calories a very good way to lose weight and very safe.|||Excellent Cardio that is if you train out side of the gym. Because any good boxer has to love to run. You will shed all of those unwanted pounds. Plus you do learn to defend yourself.

Is it possible to start boxing at such an older age?

Usually when people start a sport they have to start at a young age. I'm 14, girl, basically weak but I want to try boxing as a way to get my emotions out and stop self harm. I was wondering if it could work out?|||14 isn't too young to start boxing ... plenty of fighters started a lot later than that. For example, Kermit Cintron is a pro boxer (used to be IBF ww champ) who didn't start until he was 19.|||14 is defiantly not to old to start anything and their is no reason to not do something and regret it later, like when your 70 and actually to old. I would say go for it and give it at least a couple of weeks/months because you will probably be pretty bad to start (but its only temporary!). And if it doesnt work out it doesnt matter, at least you tried|||Just do it

Im 23 and i am going to start boxing. Oh yea and i am going to the the future undefeated, undisputed middleweight champion of the world. Dead serious.

What is the difference between boxing and kickboxing?

i want to try boxing %26amp; there's kickboxing available %26amp; i want to know the differences.|||In boxing you can only use your hands, In kick boxing you can use both hands and feet...nuff said !|||The difference is in kickboxing its faster to get knocked out, that's why you really need a good defence

in boxing its less fast pace so you can move around faster and read your opponent better.|||In kickboxing it's mostly just learning to balance and kick really hard and powerful, you can knock people out faster with yur legs. Boxing is mostly just a rhythm with your hands and you where gloves|||Well, Let me think...You can kick in one of them. But not the other...Although not for the lack of trying.|||I think in one...you can kick. Not sure which one though, but one of them, definitely you can kick.|||feet

What kind of rope should I use to skip rope for my boxing workout?

I bought a jump rope from academy two months ago and have realized my shoulders get tired from spinning it long before my lower body does. I was advised by a friend that a heavier rope would do for my boxing training. I am 6'1 and weigh 202 lbs, anyone have a good idea as to what weight i should get and maybe where I can find these heavy ropes?|||Between 2 and 4 pounds for the weight.

Something like this:

http://store.titleboxing.com/title-heavy鈥?/a>|||A leather jump rope would be best - check link

http://www.ultimateboxingbags.com/produc鈥?/a>|||you could literally just buy a rope from the hard ware store... that's what I would do if I was a wrestler...which I'm not...

Does the head gear for boxing completely guard you from being injured?

Me and my friends want to start boxing each other. We are 18 years old. It is about 10 of us. We are all buying are own set of boxing gloves and the head gear and a mouth piece. We will be back yard boxing. Could we brake our noses or get hurt wearing the boxing head gear or is it safe?|||Absolutely Not. It only stops from getting your Jaw Broke, Eye's Split Open, Era Drum's Busted, and other facial cuts. Your Nose can still be broken, you can still get "Punchy" which is just another name for Brain-Damage, And you can still get Knocked Out, Just a little harder. If your Back-Yarders" as I call them, You will have fun as long as no-one looses their minds. It's tough now I am not gonna lie to you! Guy's will get knocked out, Noses will get broke, But thats the price the sport demands if your gonna play it. It's how I started out a million years ago, Fighting with my 7 Brothers and friends in the Back Yard, lol. I Fought for the U.S. Army later in life, and won several Championships doing so. To think it all started in my back yard still gives me a laugh. We had some really good times doing it back then. Just dont get carried away, which can be easy if someone gets an attitude, or gets too-serious! Remember, Your not trying for Title Belts, Your just back-yarders having a good time, dont try to take each others heads off, lol. Hope this helped, and be carefull men. Take Care.|||Yes you can very easily break you nose while wearing head gear. Head gear dosent cove your nose. Headgear really wont stop you from getting hurt you can still get a black eye a broken jaw and a swollen lip.|||it is possible to break your nose but it would be hard to do. remember that you have on face gear and you are punching with gloves. i would buy the lightest gloves you can find for speed.|||Yeah you could break your nose. You could also get a black eye, busted lip, %26amp; a broken jaw(possibly).|||also, you can still acquire a closed-head injury or suffer neck problems, have fun.|||It will not protect you from any body punches which could result in damage to kidneys, liver, spleen, or even death.|||The human head is not meant to be pummeled mercilessly...Brain and neck injury is what I would be worried about...|||Yes you can get hurt %26amp; break yalls nose. Do any of yall have any boxing expeirence?

How to train for boxing with a broken hand?

So, im a boxer and i got pretty unlocky and broke my hand, i want to stay in shape for boxing what can i do?|||I'm in almost the same situation as you .. I have a bruised bone .. with no clue when it truely will be healed and almsot fractured it ( my wrist bone under the thumb from punching too hard too much ..)

- I do alot of core work outs .. shadow boxing with my hurt hand laying at my head ..it gets you use to using your other hand..

- work out your legs alot , jumping jacks leg machines , jogging , running w/e your hand bouncing can tolerate..

- abs .. crunches , sit ups so on ( leg ups )

- you can do pilates? basically like a push up position but you lay on your elbows and balance yourself

- lift free weights with the other hand..

- I even tied a resistance band around my arm on the hurt side and used it as if I was actually using it correctly ( with my hand..)

good luck .. pain killers can make you lazy / laid back so keep your game up and head up don't rush back either no pain no gain doesn't apply to this wait till you're 100% before you throw a punch with that hand again ..

- you can also do those shoulder rolls or w/e and neck rolls .. where you swing them in circles ..

- diet properly ..

- walking alot .. fast paced if you cannot handle running ( your hand bounces so I can understand that)

good luck really hope I helped|||I broke my hand twice during my professional career, I remember at first the throbbing was so bad that I could not run, but if you can run that should help with your conditioning try shadow boxing in front of a mirror and work on specific things ie. for one round work exclusively on keeping your chin tucked behind your shoulder especially when punching-good luck|||shadow boxing? and you can still train your movement like footwork or shoulder and hip use when you punch. you can do all those movements you did before, just without punching anything.|||roadwork

and lots more running.

How would you use boxing against karate, beishaolin, karate and muay thai?

I'd like to know how you could adapt what you've learnt in boxing to fight someone who does Karatedo, Muay Thai, Taekwondo and Beishaolinquan.

What would be a good strategy to use against these four martial arts, and how would I evade/counter attacks to legs and lower body in general?|||There are too many variables. It depends on how trained you and the opponent are. If you are faster, stronger, etc. you may win. However I don't advise it. Anyone trained in a martial art can easily take on someone using a style like boxing. Boxing is more of a street style. Boxing revolves more on just punches, and kicks if kick boxing, and power. Trained martial artists have the advantage of a wide r

ange of techniques, such as punches (straight line, other hand strikes i.e. the shuto: knife hand strike) various kicks, and throws and take downs. A martial artist has the advantage of technique that build the necessary strength and speed. But as I stated earlier at matters on who is fighting.

As for being able to find ways to counter the styles it also has many variables. One way is to study the art of the fighter (and the fighter them self) to find the individuals weakness. After you have found it, exploit it. Taekwondo uses a lot of kicks and leg techniques, so it is imperative to watch the legs, but don't neglect any part of the body, they can all be a weapon. Karate is a striking art with many attacks, so a solid defense is needed. As far as Muay Thai and Beishaolinquan I don't know. I haven't studied these arts.

No matter the style it is imperative to work every aspect of fighting, attack, defense, conditioning (speed, strength, etc.) and have a strong mind. It all depends on the individual fighter.|||For me boxing has always been a part of my personal self defense strategy. However, I've also studied Ju Jitsu for many years. I've also been fortunate enough to train with people in various other Arts. So my recommendation is don't limit yourself to just one type of self defense method. In fact training in the Arts you named would be a great way to understand why they use the techniques they use.|||the best way to understand a style is to study it for a while, those are actually a lot more then 4 styles your looking at, karate has close to if not more then 50, and tdk has over 75. the each use different tactics.

you dont want to worry about so much what style your opponent knows, but how he moves and what kind of fighter he is, what kind of fighting ranges he uses, his timing, and techniques, the types of stances and so forth.

stances tell a lot about the type of fighter he is, long narrows stances are long range fighters short stances are close range, wide stance make it easier for side stepping and so forth. learn to read your opponents, and understand there movements and patters they use.|||Well, with boxing you are going to want to be in the pocket. Closing the distance between you and the opposing fighter will eliminate kicks however in closing quarters will also leave you subject to the clinch. You would still need to use the same stick and move aspects of boxing, yet you need to be close enough so you stuff the kick.|||poster 907mma has some good tips.

Just make sure that the thai fighter does not get you in the clinch. When he grabs for the clinch you will probably be best giving a counter hook or uppercut.

With the karate guys, watch the groin kick.

With a boxing background you should have a great jab and better inside fighting. Hooks to the body are my favorite. Even though I fight mma and TKD, I love inside fighting.|||Speed, Skills, and Power will win any fights..No matter what martial arts you use. If I have the speed, skills, and power..I should be able to win any fights...cause I adapt to the situations and find my ways to kill somebody on their deadly spots with my quick and power attacks..in combo man..

What is a normal monthly cost to join a boxing gym?

I know I'm 17 and I've never boxed before, but I've always had an interest in boxing since I was little. Unfortunately I never had the money and neither did my parents. Now I'm VERY interested and I just want to know if it's expensive or not to join a boxing gym.|||about 40 to 80 bucks but you rarely see a all boxing gym any more there more towards mma but some gyms have boxing teams and some boxing gyms or mma gyms have a non profit license to where you train for free show your grades are up to par, depends on there criteria and train 4 to 5 times a week and compete.you could also try ymca"s and boys and girls clubs.|||$ 200.00 a oth at least.

I want to start working out by boxing, but LA Boxing is so expensive- are there cheaper clubs in Denver?

I want an actual boxing workout with gloves and a punching bag, not just going through the motions in a class like most health clubs offer. I want to actually hit something!|||Let me tell you something. All those boxing gyms that charge astronomical amounts of money for "boxing classes" are not boxing gyms. They are just a load of BS. A real boxing gym charges a small amount of money for you to use the equipment there and are open to just about anybody who wants to learn.

Try google maps and search boxing gym. If your stuck with only BS gyms then I suggest to you to buy some hand wraps and gloves, and look for a normal non boxing gym (with weightlifting, swimming, racketball treadmills all the stuff people do) and ask if it has a room with a heavy bag. IT just might, and you'll be able to go in and hit it for as long as you want.|||You can afford to commute to Denver, but not the LA gyms?

I would recommend boxing over kickboxing, but that's my personal preference. I've been boxing for a few years now, and I love it!

Boxing is a great workout, and sparring is a ton of fun! Check out gyms in the area and find a trainer!|||yes, you can do both. the training is great! you have to remember, that you will be training and sparring with people who are likely bigger and more experienced than you, so please do not let that discourage you. Stick with it!|||I would normally say it depends on what your going for but in this case, Kick boxing would be a much wiser choice. You will enjoy it far more and are much less likely to get a serious injury from a pretty dumb sport.|||kickboxing, a kickboxer could kick a boxers *** anyday, don't believe me? Youtube it.

How heavy of a boxing bag do i need?

I weigh about 135-140 lbs, and i was wondering if anyone knew how heavy of a boxing bag i need, I'm more into martial arts, so im not a boxer or anything.

Thanks|||50-60 lbs. Less static resistance, so it's better for fast striking. Heavier bags are good to develop harder striking. But at your weight, 50-60lbs should be fine.|||I would go with a 75 lbs. These can be used for both force and speed training for both fists and feet, and they're not so big that they're hard to move or find space for.

It does not necessarily have to be a particular fight.|||The year of GREAT FIGHTS that lived up to the hype (Except for Delahoya-Mayweather) You had both Marquez-Vazquez fights, Cotto-Judah, Cotto-Mosley, Pavilik-Taylor, Pavilik-Miranda, Marquez-Barrera, Darchinyan-Donaire, Hatton-Castillo, and finally Hatton-Mayweather. And I'm sure there were others I did not remember. Thats about one great fight a month. 2007 was a great year for boxing!!|||Flloyd|||I hope it will be remembered as the rebirth of the sport. Boxing is one of the greatest sports ever, but has been dieing slowly but surely for the past 5 or 10 years. 2007 showed me that the sport does not need to be determined by the heavyweight division, but by the heart, determination and hunger to be the best at the craft. It was a huge year in pretty much every weight class except for heavy weight. With the introduction of 24/7, huge pay per view fights, and big name clashes, this year may go down as one of the best in recent years.|||when hatton was floored by mayweather before his own family and many celebrities like angelina jolie, even rocky what a shame the english r so close but never make it to top level in all sports rugby, cricket, football|||Pretty boy floyd|||this was the reincarnation of boxing. I'm not pointing at a specific fighter but Floyd mayweather and Oscars golden boy promotions and HBO took boxing to a new level. never has it been a year with so many huge fights and so much money build up made in the sport of boxing. where there's is a lot of money there or a lot of people. that's why the mayweather delohoya bout was promoted by the world awaits. mayweathers 24/7 was a master piece of an idea. this show hyped me up more for a bout than ever. it showed that boxing can compete with the other sports. as long as its a good line up of major bouts and good hype its going to sale. and to make this long story short honestly hate him or love him not for the pound for pound best or the arrogant, flashy, dad hating kid from grand rapids Michigan but as the boxer who help save a dying sport Floyd mayweather Jr. That's his legacy and it shouldn't end 2007 but with a huge bang into 2008 against Cotto.|||It will be remembered as the year of Floyd Mayweather. Two huge wins with record setting pay-per-view numbers|||hopefully 2007 will put to rest the "boxing is dying" talk that got brought up by the media before and after every action packed fight we all had the pleasure of witnessing.|||The 2007 boxing year will be remembered for great super Fightes matchups like.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. Vs. Oscar De La Hoya

Floyd Mayweather Jr. Vs. Ricky Hatton

Bernard Hopkins Vs. Winky Wright

Miguel Cotto Vs. Shane Mosley

Miguel Cotto Vs. Zab Judah

And Others

What was the greatest era of fighting in a division in boxing history?

I'll define an era as being between 10 and 20 years. You can pick any weight division. What era and division was the best of all time? Base your answer on the number of great champions and contenders that competed in the span that you indicate.

And don't say anything about today, because boxing today, in any division, is not even close to being the best ever.|||Heavyweight - 60's to 70's

Welterweight - 80's

Middleweight - 50's to 60's|||1970 - 1979...nuff said !

What do you think boxing would be like if the fighters did not dictate the negotiations?

Just leave it all to the boxing commission, and you must take the fight they put you in.|||The paying public wins. We get to see fights that we want, when we want them. Just like in the UFC.|||Without negotiations you'd have a lot of fighters getting taken advantage of and that would only hurt Boxing. Fans are obviously going to look at a fight like Maywether-Pacquiao and think negotiations are evil, but their also when trying to find a date, location, and proper timing for the fighter.|||then Mayweather vs Pacquiao happened 2009

Mayweather vs Mosley happened 2006...

get it...

What is the difference between a kung-fu punch and a boxing punch?

I heard both involve body rotation. The difference is that in a boxing punch, they would pivot on the balls of their rear foot as they rotate their bodies to punch.

In kung-fu, they would have the same body rotation but both feet would stay flat on the ground and be rooted.|||Depends on the style. Like in wing chun their punch is called the sun style punch. Instead of punching horizontal wing chun punches verttically..|||they are applied very different ways my friend. boxers are taught to jab, hook, uppercut...(face orientated shots)

the jab keeps the distance between the two combatants and also is used to frustrate the opponent

the hook is used to compound power aka "the finishing" usually after the jab, its used to finish after the opponent has either been staggered or frustrated. when thrown correctly, it really creates the "cut", especially if you twist the wrist at the correct time...you can pretty much cut any part of the face.

the uppercut is used for instant surprise attacks. when suddenly thrown...it could easily knock out opponents. hitting on the chin, solarplexes...

*the boxer is throwing punches to either win rounds or to tire the opponent

the kung-fu fighter (depending on the style) has a repertoire of "punches". now a kung-fu fighter doesn't have a punching mit practice, punching bag practice, speed bag practice...he practices on hard surfaces or during forms to build instinct and accuracy.

in choy lay fut for example

there are multiple variations of a jab, a hook, forearm strikes, claw strikes, palm strikes...they are not used to win bouts, win points or competitions. these strikes are used to end quickly. they are used to ddisassemblesomeone. maim....

*pls note that im not saying that boxing techniques arent able to kill or maim. but its more Competition ready

now the best punch from a kung-fu fighter In my opinion is the striaght punch. its a jab that has a verticle fist. the way the angle of the wrist is easily generates more effectiveness than a boxing jab. its faster and more reliable as well...

so i guss the huge differences are the "intent" behind the punches...that make all of the difference|||Martial arts has a variety of styles that have punches. In Tae Kwon Do, we punch with the first two knuckles. We do not over extend, so that we stay balanced to defend or attack again. Speed and power come from a list of factors. First, we retract the opposite hand and rotate both wrists upon impact. Focusing on the retracting speed helps punch speed more that trying to punch faster. Stances and methods of keeping the body taut at the moment of impact also help deliver maximum power.|||kung fu uses blows that would not work well with gloves, such as short range vertical fist punches, 45-degree uppercuts, angular hammerfists, leopard fist strikes. What you say may be true relative to some kung fu styles, but there are over 300 styles.|||Different styles of kung fu punch differently. When you say kung fu punch you're probably thinking of wing chun (style of kung fu), which has lots of fast short punches aimed at the midsection that don't rotate the body|||Well there are hundreds of styles of Kung Fu with different types of punches within each style. U might want to be more specific on what ur talking about.|||boxing punches cause damage

What is the difference between kickboxing and boxing?

like Floyd Money Mayweather and Manny Paquiaou and stuff are they boxing or kickboxing?

i wanna be a pro boxer and theres a gym for boxing and kickboxing..

which one should i pick?|||If you want a money sport then boxing is, but if you want a real sport then kickboxing is the best.

How much does a boxing coach normally get from the boxer's purse of the fight?

Fights at the world championship level reaches as high as 50 to 100 million US dollars like De La Hoya fights and Mayweather fights in the future with Pacquiao. Just curiuos how the boxing coaches in the world can become millionaires too by training a high pedigree champ.|||It can vary for different fighters but the general rule of thumb to determine how much boxing trainers make is 10 percent of the total purse or a flat fee (something that is negotiated).

For the mega-fights between the really big names such as the ones that you mentioned most likely negotiate on how to pay their trainer because they make in the dozens of millions of dollars, so many times they probably negotiate with the trainer and pay him lower than 10 percent because even if they receive 5 percent, they will still get a lot of money. And many times, if the fighter wins his match, the trainer will receive a bigger cut or will simply get a bonus for getting the fighter to win the fight.

How do I become a certified a boxing instructor?

I have been an amateur boxer and a student of the sweet science for several years. Now that I dont compete I would like to coach others in the sport and if possible make a living doing so. What is the most profitable and effective way to become a certified boxing coach? Through which organization do I get one with? usa boxing?|||1

Learn. No matter you current level of knowledge, there is always more to learn. Enroll in local classes, and review fights on television, or in person if possible, to keep abreast of new techniques. This will also serve as advance preparation for the certification course that you will be required to take.

2

Get experience. In addition to increasing your boxing IQ on a mental level, if you don't have first hand boxing experience on an amateur or a professional level gain some. Clients are more apt to use a trainer, and take advice from one, who has experience in the ring.

3

Locate the nearest Local Boxing Committee. You can do so by visiting their website (see Resources) and calling or emailing a representative for address information.

4

Apply for certification at the nearest Local Boxing Committee office. You will need to register for and complete a six-hour program to become certified.

How to improve speed and power in boxing?

What kind of training do I need to improve speed and power "strength" when boxing?

Is it a good idea to shadow box while holding weights in my hands|||First things first, master your form slowly and gradually build speed you can generate more power from a punch that has good form than one you force. Make sure you have someone watching and critiqueing you when you start or you will build bad habits.

If you decide to shadow box with weights, don't fully extend your punches and don't throw full speed or you will hurt yourself even if it's with light weights.

A little routine I did for a while was 4 rounds 3 minutes each with minimal rest in between

1st round - 8 lb. weights went as slowly as I could with the best form possible

drop the 8's and grab 5's

2nd round - 5 lb. weights picked up the speed a hair still focusing on form

drop the 5's and grab 2's or 3's

3rd round - go about 75% speed (still not fully extending punches) really concentrate on bringing your hands back to defensive position.

drop the weights

4th round - go full speed, go all out.

You will be amazed at the results.

To really be able to tell if you are hitting harder you need to actually be hitting something like focus mitts or a heavy bag.

Remember this is the order your training should go

1) Conditioning

2) Form

3) Speed

4) Power

Don't forget your footwork.|||for quick feet we used to do the BFS dot test, and agility ladders.

Do they make small boxing heavy bags you can hang in an apartment?

Hi I have heard they make small boxing heavy bags that hang on bungee cords for like training at home in an apartment. Is this true. Where and how much would they cost? I live in cincinnati?|||see if there's a local big5 near you.|||Just make your own to the size that suits you........Canvas bag filled with sand works.|||They do make punching bags in various sizes and weights that should fit your needs. Probably want to go with a lighter bag.

Can you go pro boxing if you start when your older?

Hi I have a knack for boxing but I started kinda late. I'm 19 almost 20. I've been training for about a year now. But I heard the pros start when there like 5. So is it possible to go professional this late in the game. I've been told numerous times I can go pro by various ppl. Also I've never lost a match.|||Absolutely you are not at all too old to start training seriously to fight pro. Get some good amature experience, and hook up with the best trainer you can and if you have the talent and desire you certainly can go far! There is no limit or magic formula, just hard work and dedication. Good Luck!

How would you compare Boxing in the United States to Puerto Rico?

How is boxing received differently in the United States than in Puerto Rico. Is it more or less popular. What places events and people have been influnetial.|||Puerto Rico really support their MAN.

Can I start up Boxing Training just for fitness?

I dont want to "fight" anyone, but all boxers are lean mean-machines. I am thin but would like to build some muscle and work on my fitness level, can I do this in a boxing gym without having to fight?

Also do those guys accept outsiders or people who are just in it for fitness/fun?|||Training just for fitness, of course..

You will increase much stamina, endurance, get the muscle and the function, increase speed, your awareness

Anybody accepted for boxing

Yes, you can and you will like it

It is the best sport in the world|||Of course you can.

No one's gonna make you fight if you don't want to.

It is GREAT exercise and will get you in shape like nothing else can.

You will not avoid, however, learning how to throw a punch. This is a good thing, as you will also be able to handle yourself if the situation calls for it.

Listen guys who come in and bust their *** are respected just the same, no one's gonna look down on you because you're training for fitness reasons.

Give it a shot I promise you results, and by the time you get pretty good with your hands, you might find yourself in the ring after all.|||Aye of course you can, most gyms have plenty people there who only go for fitness reasons and never swap punches with anyone.

Plenty advice at the website below....

How do you get rid of the smell from sweat in Boxing Gloves?

I train for boxing 3-4 times a week and my gloves developed a smell from the sweat. I wash my hand wraps every week and yet the gloves still have that odor. Any recommendations on getting rid of the smell? Thank you.|||Throw them away and next time buy 3 pair and alternate the 3 while the others are being clean.|||i hang them on the shower, but the outside, not inside.

the reason is becuz its dry sweat.

if u just tie them on the shower like where the towel is supposed to be, it will absorb the steam and soap from the shower.

this will prevent dry cold sweat, and eliminate the smelly odors,

you can also try simpler things like febreeze, baby powder, or baking soda.

put these inside the gloves|||They have 2 products that are sold at www.ringside.com

One is a deodorizer spray that you can spray in your gloves and gym bag. The other is called "Glove Dogs", you put them in your gloves after working out and they soak up the moisture from sweat and deodorize the gloves. Neither product is expensive.|||spray with lysol.. kills bacteria that causes those odors...

also hang em up outside

get that fresh air drying them out..

right after you work out you probably put your sweaty gloves in your gym bag and they stay in there smoldering until you use them again..

open them up as much as possible when you hang dry them|||Apply a deodorant in your hands before using the gloves...

What is the best exercise shoe for aerobics, and kick boxing?

How much experience do I need to enter an amateur boxing match, and are there any age limitations?

I'm a 29 year old female and I discovered boxing at my gym about 4 months ago. I feel like I finally found a sport that I LOVE and can't get enough of. I am determined to get better and better and I'm wondering if there are any beginner matches for someone like me, and I'm hoping I haven't found my passion too late in life. Any suggestions?|||Im not going to answer the whole of your question but when you say you've found the passion too late in life, just remember this:

Anythings possible as long as you try.

Its NEVER too late as long as you try.

And you can do well with it... as long as you try!

By the way if you've just discovered it then my advice is look for a boxing club/gym in your area, keep training and when your fit enough then get a medical check, if they say you are ok you will be aloud to fight as an amateur boxer.|||Your not to old get some good training and have some fun|||There are beginner matches, even if you are brand new (forget about the age thing - it's too late to become a pro, but you have YEARS of fight in you as an amateur.) I think 4 months of training is pretty early to enter a contest, but if you are determined, go for it! If nothing else it's an experience builder and will help you focus on the holes in your boxing.

Many cities have boxing clubs that host tournaments for amateurs - make sure you ask about a female division. Most tourneys have female divisions, but I've seen events where no women showed up or only one, so she didn't get to fight. It's a sad truth, so be aware of that possibility. You don't have to be sponsored, you just pay entry fees and show up for weigh-ins that same day. You can typically find event listings on google. Or since you are in a gym now, ask your coach!

Fight day you'll have to take all your own gear (head, mouth, wraps, crotch protector, etc.) and bring a friend to corner you. A good corner-coach can see things you may not, so train yourself to listen to them during the event. If at all possible, get someone to video tape your bout - a tripod helps keep the camera stable. You'll learn a LOT about your footwork, head movement, etc.

And train your butt off. Focus on the most basic things - cardio, footwork and defense. The punches come somewhat naturally, footwork and stamina don't! I'm assuming you spar at the gym. Spar against someone better/stronger than you are. Get used to getting hit hard so it's not a shock when you get in this contest. The first few times I took a hard punch my mind shut down and I forgot all my training. Learn to relax under pressure. It's magic!

Be patient in the ring, too. Don't look for the KO in this one...try to learn from it. If you go in like you're some kind of prodigy you'll end up throwing wild garbage, off balance yourself, and get clocked. Ride the adrenaline, don't get carried away. It's easy to come out blasting when the first bell rings, but if you go too hard you gas and a smart opponent will take you apart by the end of the first round.

Good luck - you'll be fine if you use your head.

And if you don't find a local fight - get ready to travel. Or start your own fight club - put something up in the gym, at kickboxing/karate schools, or in the paper and get a half dozen females with the same interest together in your gym. I'm willing to bet that the gym owner would love an enthusiastic student who brought him more females to train. He might charge your group a little for using the ring, but if a few women sign up for training, he might let you have it free for like 2 hrs a week.

What happens to boxing scorecards after a fight?

Are boxing scorecards registered with state athletic commissions after a fight? Where can I find judges' scorecards for past fights?|||Not sure exactly what they do with them, but I am sure they are stored (even for lesser fights). Many boxing websites post copies of the official scorecard or something similar.

You can look up many of them as long as they were big fights. fightnews.com normally posts them right after a big fight

For example

http://www.fightnews.com/fightnews424.ht鈥?/a>

http://boxing.about.com/library/weekly/a鈥?/a>

For a lesser known fight, you would probably have to contact the state's boxing commision

For example

http://www.michigan.gov/cis/0,1607,7-154鈥?/a>|||Knowing boxing, they are probably destroyed, isnt that what a good crook would do .Destroy the evidence.|||they are given to the officials of the Board be that WBO WBC whatever. You may be able to get a copy from them Im sure they publish the scores

What injuries are common in amateur boxing?

I'm going to start boxing soon, and I was wondering what injuries are common.

The things I'm most concerned about are:

Commas

Concussions

Black Eyes (probably common, right?)

Broken Bones

stuff like that.

Any help here, or tips for a new boxer?

And i'm a girl. (and DON'T say girls can't box, please.)

|||You wear head gear in amatuer boxing (actually all female boxers wear head gear).

The injuries you have listed are very rare.

More common injuries are:

Wrist Injuries

Hand Injuries (injuries to your fingers and joints)

Ankle injuries (silly, yes, but in amatuers you see a lot of spained ankles)

you will have more issues with injuries during training than you will in a fight.

And heII ya, girls can box|||If you are going to train in a civilized gym, then you won't be stepping into the ring any time soon. A civilized gym will make you register with the United States Amature Boxing Federation (USABF) before you even step into the ring. This membership will cover you in case you do get injured.

I've actually trained a female boxer years ago when I was a celeb personal trainer. The most important thing is to listen to your trainer and listen to your body too.

If you get individual training, then he'll start with the basics like stance, throwing proper punches, foot work, bag work and things like that. If you get with a trainer that works with a large gang of people at the same time, then you get less attention and after a short course of the basics they usually work you with timed drills in different skilled stations.

When you do step into the ring you'll be using 16oz. gloves, so don't worry about concussions. To prevent bruises always cover your face thick with vasiline and that will help a great deal.

In the Novice division you won't experience any major injury that you mentioned unless you don't listen and try get into the top of the game when you're not ready, JUST LISTEN and before you know it you'll be knocking out girls and maybe guys too. If it's not fun then don't do it.

|||Well I have never have never had an injury before. The headgear protects you from cuts But Cuncussions can still happen if your opponent hits you hard enough.

My advice to you would be to protect your body more than anything because punches to the ribs hurt. |||I'd have to agree with James B. I can relate to the things he listed. What are some ways to become motivated after loosing a boxing match?

I used to be an animal, I used to run 10 miles 3 times a week and train in boxing 4 times a week for 2-3 hours.

I lost a fight last year around this time and can not seem to get myself motivated to get back into training like I used to.

What are some ways I could get myself out of this trench.|||I recently lost a split decision on a fight I trained hard for. I did a twelve week intensive training program and was 100% focused for my fight.

After the loss, I was down a little, kept running certain things through my head. You kinda beat yourself up for a while... (that's natural).

Take a look at the positives - You had the guts to lace up a glove and enter the ring (That's more than 99% of the boxing fan base). When you enter a boxing arena - one of you has to lose...

What do people think of crosstraining boxing with Taekwondo?

Does it make it a bit more street practical? Also the TKD fighting stance seems the closet I have seen to the boxing stance.

That way you get solid punches and kicks as well as elbows, knees, sweeps and some grappling

Note: I am in no way saying TKD is bad or not complete, I think it is. I already do boxing and would like to do TKD as well.|||cross training can't hurt anything ;)|||That would be reinventing kick boxing.|||Not a bad idea to combine arts.

How long do boxing day flyers usually last?

i am wondering if boxing day flyers are still running.

specifically speaking BEST BUY in canada. if not, do they do rain-checks?

Thanks. no rude comments please. Much appreciated.|||I live in Canada (specifically, Ontario). The Best Buy in my city, Windsor, distributed a flyer before Christmas, with the newspaper, that was good for 2 days, December 26th and 27th. There has since been a "Boxing Week" flyer/sale, that has come with the paper, which looks like it goes to the 3rd of January.

And, no, the items that were advertised in the "Boxing Day" flyer/sale (December 26th and 27th) would not be available via a raincheck. People line up for hours the night before to get some of those items, and they stock very limited quantities.

Good luck with your shopping.

Check their online site for sales as well. http://www.bestbuy.ca

What kind of boxing gloves should I buy?

I have been boxing for a few months now, and I am looking for a long lasting pair of gloves for the heavy bag and light sparring.|||Ringside is the only affordable brand I vouch for or recommend when it comes to gear in general. The only thing I dislike about Ringside is that their customer service is horrible and their shipping is contracted through UPS. It's a horrid company that produces excellent products.

If you're willing to spend the extra buck, go for Cleto Reyes or Grant.

The brands you'll want to avoid at all costs are Everlast, Title, Combat Sports, Century, or anything else that is not Ringside, Cleto Reyes, Winning, or Grant (the only thing good that Grant produces is their "Professional" line of gloves, no other products or gloves). Everlast and Title make horrible products in general and are dishonest. They are two sides of one coin, as their products are manufactured, stored, and sold out of the same factory. They sell cheap (and often previously used), half-assed products at 10x the value and are very dishonest and corrupt. You'll order an item when it's on sale and they'll confirm that the item is indeed on sale, but they'll bill you for the standard item price without telling you, etc.

Bottom line:

1.) Ringside

2.) Cleto Reyes

3.) Grant (Professional)

4.) Winning

All the best.|||Bag gloves and sparring gloves usually use two different foam combinations. A bag glove, weather it be Reyes, Grant or whomever has a different type of foam than a glove used to spar or hit someone with. Therefore, that said, I'd personally buy the Grant Super bag glove 12 oz. velcro closure and any top of the line 14 or 16 oz. sparring glove. Anyone know of a good boxing club in the Kalamazoo, Battle Creek Michigan area?

My friend and I both go to Western Michigan University and we want to join some kind of boxing club. We have no experience boxing so we will need help from the very beginning. Should I start boxing before or after baseball season?

I am a freshman and will be trying out for the freshman baseball team. But, if it would help me as a boxer, I wouldn't play baseball. Baseball season for Freshman is only 2 months long. So should I spend 2 months playing baseball or going to the local boxing gym? Would it hurt to play baseball for 2 months?|||Baseball might actually help you with boxing. Baseball requires good hand-to-eye coordination and with boxing, you need to see punches coming and react to them whether blocking, slipping, and countering.

And baseball also forces you to use your legs and rotate your hips to generate power. Rocky Marciano, one of boxing's greatest punchers, was an aspiring baseball player. He would spend 2 hours a day hitting baseballs and he learned to drive his legs and rotate his hips and put his full weight into every punch.|||you should probably try not to juggle the 2 but really its up to you

What should I do to achieve excellent conditioning for amateur boxing?

I'm 6'2, 234lbs, natural heavyweight, hard hitting, so far my stamina is good but not great. I'm focusing on conditioning myself now, at boxing we do circuits which are tough but I'm talking about running, swimming and that stuff. How many miles is good for a run, how often to run this? And how long to swim a week.|||First of all, you've got good size, but I don't want you to get cocky, but rather confident. Breathing is the most important thing to learn to do correctly and regulate it. Conditioning is more than 70% in amateur boxing. You could be the biggest guy there, with the best punch, but if you run out of gas before the end of three tough rounds, it's worthless. ROAD WORK is most important. Not just running, but miles of endurance building road work. Run, stop, shadow box, move around, keep running, not sprints, but a good steady pace that keeps you breathing through your nose, not your mouth. Learn to pace that breathing as much as possible. Secondly, don't be a head hunter. That body punch both left and right can do just as much damage as the big punch to the chin. Don't bully so much, but know how to use your punches. My son is 6'4" 235 and I taught him to box tall. Reach, a great jab, movement, not Ali shuffling , but the ability to use angles on your opponent.

Keep your roadwork constant, but vary the locale to keep from getting complacent or bored. Good luck. If you vary the roadwork do 5 miles or more daily, or at least every other day. Breath...don't forget to breath and keep yourself under control. In the gym, beside your regular bag work, sparring, do the box exercise for your legs and again breathing. It's like a stepper. Up one side of a raised platform, say 12 inches high and up and down on this box will be lots of stain on the legs. Good exercise for endurance and again breathing.|||Cardio is key in conditioning. Swimming, Running, and Climbing are very valuable assets for increasing your stamina and cardio.

Muhammad ali was running 4-10 miles per day, weeks before fights.

But if you have no fights upcoming, the best way to stay in shape is to keep a routine for a week and then increase the routine, start off running 3 miles per day for the first week, with 10 laps in the pool, and 1 hour of climbing. The following week Increase each of these, Running= 3 1/2 miles, 12 laps, and 1 1/2 hr of climbing.

What things should i do to prepare myself for a boxing match in a month?

I dont know what to do i have access to all boxing equipment at my karate studio. ANY TIPS will help.|||Wussup Rhye? follow these steps playa.

1. Find a good gym and train every day.

2. Work constantly on cardio by running, shadowboxing, jumping rope and riding the bike.

3. Gain power by hitting the heavy bags.

4. Work on timing and quickness with the hand bags and training pads.

5. Build muscle mass with weight training, sit-ups, pull-ups, dips and push-ups.

6. Spar with other boxers in your gym.

7. Get out and do the real thing as often as your trainer and schedule allow.

8. You'll be better then Mayweather in no time.|||You have a big problem one month is not enough time to properly train for your first fight butt this is what I would sugest . Find a good boxing trainer and you should spar at least three times a week with people that are better than you and you should run everyday except the last three days before the fight so your not wore out come fight time .This should get you through the fight if you don,t get knocked out. Keep your hands up all the at all times and don,t stand right in front of him.And don,t fight the guy if he has had more than 3 fights good luck.|||One thing that you might consider is snorting warm salt water. The salt helps to harden the capillaries in the nose, consequently causing less nose bleeds! Another is to work hard on your hitting power. Also your ability to get hit! What is a good age to start your son in boxing?

We believe that boxing is a better form of self defense than martial arts (from our own observation of real life scenarios) and want to get our son into it eventually. He's only 4 1/2 and a very tender hearted, non-violent kid for being a little boy. I don't know if he'd like it, or understand it yet. We do want him to try it though because it's such a good form of excersize in addition to being great self defense. How should we go about this?|||Honestly, from my experience, expose him to boxing, but do not "force" him into it. Boxing is a sport that you either want to do it or not. If your child "wants it", then any age is great. If he is shaky about his commitment, boxing may not be the best sport. I am curious to know how this turns out.|||14|||boxing? thats rather violent..why not tennis or golf|||My daughter just started and she's 11.|||Have you ever heard of non-violent conflict resolution? Or does everyone in your family believe in "fighting back"?

Why don't you make your son the exception in the family, and encourage him to talk peacefully with people and turn the other cheek, instead of fighting back?

I've turned away from every fight that has ever come my way in life, and I have to say that I am now far more fit than any kid that I knew who ever "fought back"... I've never broken a single bone in my body, and my safely intact brain has allowed me to go to college, get an excellent degree, and make quite a lot more money than average.

Do you think training your child by having him take punishment to his fragile face and brain are going to be good for him?

One day he's going to be knocked unconscious and be in hospital in a coma, and you'll be sitting there grieving to yourself "What have I done? What have I done?"|||1st or 2nd grade, but because he is tender hearted you have to be careful, most violent people start out ttender hearted then they get picked on all the time until one day they get tired of being bullied and they strike back and trust me if your son can box and he's in about the 6th grade and a 8th grader picks on him , your son being tender hearted will be the least of your worries.|||Is boxing really self-defense? Seems more offensive that what I understand of it and the martial arts. I guess the most difficult thing I have with wanting a child to get "into it" is that the whole point of boxing is to knock someone unconscious. Is this the sort of activity you want to teach your child is "good"?

And what are these "real life scenarios" that make you think boxing is a better form of self defense? You've seen someone surprised in a mugging who was a boxer and could compare it to someone in a similar situation that was a martial artist of similar level of training?????

And why the concern for this when your son isn't even 5? I don't understand why parents "want him to try it" - how about giving him a choice of exercise? Why do you feel a need to push exercise on a 5 year old? Do you think he is underexercised? How about more age-appropriate activities? If he is very tender-hearted and non-violent, why are you trying to change him? Maybe that's who he's meant to be.|||Just smack him in the head and scramble his brains. Seriously if you really think boxing is a good "sport" check out some old boxers. Their ears are cauliflowered, their eyebrows are thick with scar tissue and they mumble and stutter when they talk. Blows to the head cause the brain to bounce against the skull, breaking blood vessels. That is know as a concussion and it is cumulative. In other words the more concussions the more the brain damage. Look at Mohammed Ali, one of tne greatest heavyweight champions. Some say he was THE greatest. He stumbles when he walks and his speech is slurred and halting. The few times he appers in public anymore he has a daughter to interpret for him as his speech is so garbled. The term "punch drunk" was coined many many years ago to describe fighters in this condition. I wouldn't let any kid I cared about be a boxer.|||I belive that boxing is a good form to defense and a sports with his wonderlness, but in no case like violent for being people how practice this sports. We want to done and teaching our son to exercise the boxing just for being great self defense when he is little in 6-8 old.|||Why would you want your son to box. getting hit in the head is no good, especially at a young age like that. better ways to toughen a kid up than that. Is it okay to drink a monster energy before a boxing match?

I want to know if it's okay to drink a energy drink, like monster energy, before a boxing fight, to be full of energy and to not get tired easily. Is it okay? Explain.|||No it is not ok. The sugar rush will lead to a sugar crash and you will decline in performance. In fact I remember reading in yahoo sports a week ago about a guy on the Lakers who had a sweet toooth and it was hurting his play on the field because he lost focus after the sugar rush wore off. The crash will make you tired and you won't perform better than with natural conditioning training. So it is not illegal in that sense but it is not recommended. I knew a kid back in high school in track that drank an energy drink and collapsed right after the race.|||No.

If you ask a nutritionist, they will tell you to eat a balanced diet, including all the food groups.

The problem with the carb or protein drink/supplement/bar eating crowd is that they are buying into an industry rather than common sense.

Think about it: everyone says to avoid artificial foods, and yet "health" food stores sell all this processed junk food.

When you need to eat, then eat......food.

Have a nice, balanced meal before a match, hydrate well, but give yourself lots of time for the meal to settle. Leave the sugar drinks and protein loading to the fad peddlers.

Eat food.|||Being in shape helps you not get tired easily an energy drink just gives you a sugar boost it has nothing too do with anything cardiovascular.|||yea if you want diaria in the 3rd round

How I get ripped big muscle while in boxing?

I am going to get into boxing but I also want to body build. So I was wondering is it possible to get big ripped muscle while in boxing?I am asking because I know alot of boxing is cardio and conditioning and boxers dont really have very defined muscles.|||Sure, it's very possible. Evander Holyfield is one good example. He's one boxer with a ripped and well-defined bodybuilder's physique. Evander incorporates a lot of weight-lifting in his training. Usually, he begins his training in the weight room for a few weeks before getting into the boxing part. At one time, when he had to build up his physique to campaign as a heavyweight (he was formerly a cruiserweight) in the late 80's, he had Mr. Olympia Lee Haney to train him, and it obviously paid great dividends. Perhaps, you can follow his example.

How do the need of quick money relate to the boxing industry?

Just wondering why people who need alot of money without doing alot of work would chose to go have a career in the boxing industry. What do you think ? Is there more reasons?|||pacquiao is the number money maker right now in boxing. in boxing industry, money is important, not because you show them off to other people, like Lil floyd does, but it's important because of pacquiao. he's the face of boxing right now.|||Boxing requires a huge amount of discipline and work. It takes years and years of training just to get a fight. The big money only happens to maybe 50 out of 500,000 boxers.|||I do not believe there has been a fighter in the history of boxing who was dumb enough to get into boxing for "quick" money. In fact the latest numbers I heard when John McCain was making a case for a national body in boxing was 91% of boxers never make enough money to retire on.

Most boxers have to start amature careers when there around 17 and on average fight anywhere from 2 to 5 years for free, most of time having to pay there own way to events, find there own lodging unless they happen to live in some of the big amateur boxing cities. It鈥檚 a reason you don鈥檛 see allot of great fighters come out of Canada. We have very few cities that host allot of pro or amateur contests making it very difficult for fighters to get any experience. If you ever look at a Canadian Boxers record most say they fight out of either BC,Toronto,Montreal or Halifax.

Becoming a hugely profitable boxer is very hard, talent alone is not enough; becoming a world famous boxer is more about Image then talent unless you鈥檙e a big banger who puts on exciting fights either by getting allot of knockouts or being a human punching bag. There are all kinds of talented fighters that never even get seen on TV.

Even guys like Oscar DeLaHoya one of the highest paid fighters in the sports history, who had the charm, the boyish good looks, the smile and the punch fought for almost 10 years including his amateur days and never made a buck until singing with one of the biggest promoters in the world Bob Arum, and even after he signed with Arum he needed to win some high profile fights before he would be making superstar money.

And for your comment that boxers don鈥檛 do allot of work? Thats horribly insulting, first of all if a fighter goes in the ring and only fights for 1 minute and makes a good buck, there is the whole training going into that one minute, there is the 3 months of hard training without sex, drinks or fun of any kind, working out until you throw up and then going at it again, There is the number of pro fights and training camps that became before that fight and then there is the amateur fighting and training dedicating your entire youth to a dream that might fizzle out or get you killed. And if you are one of the very few lucky fighters to make it to retirement with a bank full of money you have braindamage, tremors, parkinsons, headaches, muscle pains, involentary spasms, scars and a beaten face to look forward too. Your old, no one cares anymore and all you can do is wish you could be in that spotlight one more time.

But if you don鈥檛 know then you don鈥檛 know, you can go on being ignorant if you like or go down to your local boxing gym and see if you can last 15 minutes in a circuit training session, stay with it a few months and try and get in a sparring session and see if your knees can handle it, see if you have the guts to throw a punch or cower and fall down from fear like allot of first timers who never come back to the club again. Then come on here and air your ignorant opinion that boxing is easy.|||There is no such thing as quick money in boxing, it takes years of hard work, and talent, and a little luck to make the type of money top earners make in boxing.|||Quick money comes from the bets. There are lots of unregulated fights staged by hustlers and fly by night promoters who just want the quick cash they get from the gambling side of it while enjoying the brutality in the ring. And if you're a bum who's a magnet for brawls and streetfights, wouldn't you rather fight for pay than have your face smashed without any compensation?

The highly paid superstars are a few but for someone who knows nothing other than fighting, earning half a thousand for a few minutes fighting is quick cash. There are actual bums/criminals who become boxing superstars. Iron Mike Tyson's one of them.|||There is a major amount of work involved in being a successful fighter and making good money, but most don't get that far. Most boxers turn pro at a young age, maybe late teens early 20's and retire in their mid-30's if they're lucky, so they have a very limited amount of time to make good money and they also have to keep winning. I sparred for 5 rounds without training and was about ready to collapse after, so it goes to show the work that is needed

What is the difference between genuine leather and PU boxing gloves?

Boxing gloves are usually made of genuine leather or PU, but what is the significance of this variation? Seemingly leather gloves are 'better' as they are generally more expensive, but why is this?|||Genuine leather gloves can last you for years if you take great care of them. Anything else might rip or start to fade.|||methyl acetate is new solvent used in PU leather, has no odor. Any suggestions?|||we don't have Olympic Trials like in the US, so our boxers have to go through qualifying tournaments to make the Olympics.

MVP's got more than enough money to sponsor nation-wide boxing tournaments so the ABAP can have more chances of discovering potential Olympic boxers while our boxers get more in-ring experience before slugging it out in the qualifying tournaments.

When you hit from the left, throw the hand, brace yourself, and throw your back into it while your feet twist.
