How do you start a career for bare-knuckle boxing?

Where would one go to start a career in bare-knuckle boxing, like Kimbo Slice? Do they start with a talent agent? I am in Michigan.

Thanks|||The cops let Kimbo do it since there were rules to the fight and it was consentual, but it has to be set up where the rules are there and you have a set time where the fight would stop. As for selling out events not gonna happen, but you get it on you tube and set up a webpage then you get your money. Everyone that has to run their mouth about Kimbo being a joke in the MMA world remember what the question was instead of trying to make someone say wow he's a hardcore fan. You don't like it don't answer the question get your 2 points somewhere else.|||Well, first you have to learn boxing. If you can't find a boxing trainer then you could try the Slam Man.

It's a human shaped electronic punching bag with targets that light up which tell you where to punch.

It's better than an ordinary punching bag as it can provide combinations for you and it's much better for motivation because it's more fun. It basically acts as your very own boxing trainer.

I've got one of my own and it comes with gloves and an instructional DVD in the basics. A human shaped target provides a more realistic training regime as well.|||It's tough to do what Kimbo did. There are so many people out there trying to make a name on youtube it's not even funny any more. He did it the stupid way, and got lucky. It's like winning the lottery, bro.

The best thing to do if you want to fight is enter some contests and win. There must be a million "MMA/Toughman" contests out there. Sign your name and beat some ppl up!

Get someone to video your fights - use a tripod so it looks half decent. Post your fights and pray for a miracle.

If you win enough fights you'll get sponsored eventually and you'll get into bigger shows and invitational events. (Jeremy Horn, Chris Leben, etc. came up that way.)

You really need to train at a good gym though. There will come a time when you need to protect yourself from takedowns and defend against grapplers. If not I'm thinking you'll be helpless.

But don't count on making a "career in bare-knuclke boxing". No such thing.|||You need a digital camera and a computer with Internet access. You also need another street fighter who is willing to fight against you. Set up a fight, get it on the Internet (i.e. - Youtube), and take it from there. That's how Kimbo did it.|||you can't, Bare knuckle boxing is illegal

the only fights that can be a legitimate career are professional fights by state sports commissions|||well you need to travel to the year 1895 first.

Kimbo slice is a joke as far as MMA is concerned.

Can a person of 21 yrs start boxing?

I am Varun from India, I want to go canada for study. Can I adopt boxing, I have very little experience just a training session of six months. I have never played amature. Can I adopt boxing in canada while studying. I mean can I box there just like the universuty sports ?|||Yes you can, 21 is ok age, I would say the perfect age is between 15-18, because of how ready your body is to take hits, most people think that if you start at age 6-10 is even better, but not realy, the body of a ten year old is not ready to take punishment, look at Floyd Mayweather he started boxing when he was 5 and now at age of 31 he has had many health problems, thats why he retired.|||since your already going there for school the only thing you can do is look around once you get there. you'll probably have to go off campus as boxing isn't usually a university type sport

What are the chances of the Philippines getting a gold medal in boxing in the next Olympics?

Onyok Velasco managed a silver before. Manny V. Pangilinan is now Chairman of the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines. As an exemplary business manager, can he manage a gold in boxing in the next Olympics? What must he do? Any suggestions?|||Better now than in the "pre Pacquiao" era, Manny Pacquiao has pretty much single handedly put the Philippines at the center of the boxing world and raised the awareness of the sport in his home country to an all time high. Young boxers attempting to follow Pacquio'a lead have put the Philippines in great position to make a run at Olympic gold as amateurs. .|||There are really no impossibilities for the Philippines to get a gold in the Olympics. Filipinos just needed to possess the guts, the fortitude, and the determination. There is always a possibility due to favourable combinations of circumstances, and that circumstances only depends on the the Filipino athlete himself, by not blaming the government on there moral and financial support. By not looking for some deficiency of our system. Winning the gold is succeeding with great difficulty and with the effort that is really inconvenient. That's what i think this Olympic gold medal means. Go Pinoy!!!!|||well, we should keep our sport facilities updated, especially our boxing training facilities that could give us that elusive single gold in the olympics. he can start by giving our boxers outside the country experience, get topnotch coaches and trainers (i heard they're getting cuban coaches again) and supply our athletes some incentives such as livelihood and housing perks.

we may have a "good" chance IF these things are at hand, these small big things can push our athletes to persevere.

to the guy down there saying do not blame the government....please look at our facilities, we do not have proper beds in our quarters back then, and with a 25 pesos meal allowance? how can you compete with an empty stomach? no matter how you persevere, without any help from the government we cannot win, although we give em a good fight. maybe you should see the chinese olympic programs or the koreans, the thais....they've got good programs for their athletes, and it shows come the olympics.|||Philippines has a big chance to win a gold in boxing in the olympics..

the country have lots of potential fighters..but not given a big break and enough financial support from the government. they should work in that.

but then.....having manny pacquiao...

it's more than winning 7 olympic golds. hahaha.. :)|||HMMmm do you think Mosley vs Mayweather should also have a Gold Medal on who's winning.

coz its already there the USADA is from olympics, Mosley and Mayweather should wear a boxing helmet.|||With the right propects anything is attainable.|||60 %

What is so magical about the welterweight division in boxing?

Historically, the welterweight division has had some of the best boxers. Armstrong, Robinson, Griffith, Napoles, Leonard, Hearns. Many boxing historians agree that Ray Robinson, and Henry Armstrong are the top two boxers all-time, and both held titles at 147. Now Floyd and Pacquiao are in the top 2 spots. What is it about this weight class?|||Welterweights are JUST small enough to entertain us with their speed and they are JUST big enough to also entertain us with their power. It is in essence, the "perfect" weight division because the fighters are not small enough to the point where they have no power like flyweights or bantamweights, and they are not big enough to the point where they are very slow and plodding like cruiserweights or heavyweights.

When there was originally only 8 weight divisions in boxing (not 17 like there are today), the welterweight division was smack dab in the middle and it has always featured great all-around, balanced fighters who could do many things extremely well inside the ring because the welterweights have the best of both worlds- they have the speed of the lighter weights and the power of the heavier weights.

Each of the fighters that you listed were great multidimensional fighters because they didn't do just one or 2 things correctly, they did MANY things correctly- they had great offensive as well as great defense, they could counter punch, they had good jabs, they didn't headhunt because they went to the body as well, they controlled range and tempo of a fight and they were blessed with the natural talent that allowed them to be great and dedicate themselves to their craft.|||Oh yes, there most definitely are exceptions- Duran, Chavez, and Saddler all had good knockout power despite being very small, however all 3 of those fighters are guys that only come around once, maybe twice in a lifetime, so, as you stated- they are the exception, not the rule.

|||I guess in the welterweight division, people can be strong but also fast. The guys aren't too small but not too big. A good fight to watch|||Like Red Boy said, fighters at this weight have a good combination of both speed and power. For me, I am a welterweight so I find I can identify more with these fights, as well.|||Well, personally i think the best athlete's are in the lighter divisions. When a guy is big and super athletic, powerful, and coordinated chances are that he'll do another sport which won't leave him brain dead.|||Because it is the best weight of boxing. Other weights look like just kid's boxing or they look like giants but too slow.|||Larger fighters are typically less mobile, i.e. heavyweights and even middleweights. They give fewer angles and lower volume of punches. But incredibly thin boxers, minimum or straw weight, are really too small to put genuine pop on their shots, the kind that can be appreciated by fans. Welterweights, thus, occupy a happy medium between speed and strength. It's the perfect division.|||147 is among the ELITE.

But it would not be if Mayweather gets BEAT.

What is the difference between bob, weave or duck a punch in boxing?

Hi there

I have started learning boxing. However, Im confused about the teminology. When one avoids a punch normally goes down, which normally is called"ducking"?

Is weaving the sameasf ducking? Or weaving is more avoiding a punch moving the back backwards or sideways in order to avoid the punch?

What is Bob then?

Id appreciate any advice from anyone who is into boxing! Cheers!|||Bobbing and Ducking a Punch Is Just Bending your knees to get under the punch.A Weave is when u bend your knees but shift your body left to right in a rhythmical motion depending on the fighter. All of this is done with the hands up.Weaving is not the same as ducking.Weaving is more getting low and moving your head in a type of motion.Moving the back backwards is called Leaning back.Leaning back is used when you know how far your opponent can hit you from, you have to know his/her range to lean back.Leaning back is most hard against tall fighters since they have long range. But if you can lean back it is effective,it takes practice though.Leaning back on your back foot while in your stance,as soon as your opponent throws the punch and it doesn't connect, throw back, usually your power hand followed with a hook.I hope you understand.good luck with boxing.|||Im a boxer watch my videos on youtube type this 54321tae

Ok weaving is dodging punches an gets others tired or power weaving is a counter punch they miss BAAM uppercut!!!

Dodging is ducking like Huge HAYMAKERS man trust me haah!!!!

HOW do i know I do it haha i wana become a PRO in MMA now ! But boxing is FUNNN|||http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boxing#Tech鈥?/a>

Whats the difference between Golden, Diamond and silver glove boxing tournaments?

And what do I have to do in order to participate in a boxing tournament. I don't have much experience and I've only heard of golden gloves before. But I want to give it a try. How does the whole system work too? If I lose in the tournament, will I be able to come back and try again next time around?? I'm new to this so please be as detailed as possible.|||1st off you have to be an open armature boxer as opposed to novas if you do not recognize either of these then you need to start boxing competitively. Every state has minor differences but you need to be over 16 years old and have about 10 previous fights in order to be an open boxer then for the golden gloves you need to box and win your state golden gloves then depending on your region I was region 12 so the winner of our state Golden gloves boxed in the Las Vegas golden gloves the winner of the Vegas golden gloves then moves on to the national golden gloves. Diamond and silver gloves are different. Good luck|||They are all different types of Experience levels or sometimes can be weight class. You need to register with a local boxing organization and start training immediately for your first fight!

I want to start boxing wat traing should i do befor i start?

6 ft 270 pound I have past experience in wrestling and aikido (3 months) i want to start boxing wrestling didn't give me wat i wanted im hoping boxing will.

Wat training should i do to prepare me before i go in?|||1 must-have training is cardio exercise for stamina. Running, swimming, and other activities that make you breath hard are great to increase stamina.

#2 body weight exercise for strength. Pushups and pullups/chinups are great to build specific muscles used in punching

#3 body weight excercise for endurance and defense. Since you are a wrestler I assume your neck muscles are strong, neck exercises helps you from getting knocked out. Also since you are a wrestler I assume your abs are strong, situps will help you endure body shots.

In Boxing, How long does it usually take to have your first amateur fight?

I have been boxing for 6 months and I have not had mine. In fact, I only sparred twice and that was without the owners permission.|||I HAD MY FIRST FIGHT 4 DAYS AFTER JOINING THE GYM i WOULD NOT RECOMMEND IT i DID WIN BUT IF i KNEW WHAT i KNOW NOW i WOULD NOT HAVE DONE IT. i TRAIN FIGHTERS AND i WILL NOT LET ANY OF THEM FIGHT BEFORE 3 MONTH HAS PASSED. 6 MONTHS IS A LONG TIME BUY YOUR TRAINER MUST KNOW SOMETHING YOU DON'T. aSK HIM WHAT IS THE HOLD UP. YOU SHOULD BE SPARRING TWICE A WEEK.|||The boxing gym I used to train at usually waited a year before putting you in for your first amateur fight, it's frustrating but in a year you will have greatly improved from when you first started and will have a better chance of winning compared with if they just threw you into the ring after a month or so. Talk to your trainer about it, only he would know.

What is difference between boxing tape and athletic tape?

i have some 1" athletic tape that i use for finger sprains but im getting into boxing now. can i use these as boxing tape or are they different stuff?|||no difference. both are the same thing. the packaging is called "athletic tape", and thats what boxers, wrestlers, etc. use. doesent matter the size either, cuz you can cut it into strips for your knuckles, or leave the full size for the wrists. different brands of athletic tape sometimes come in a smooth surface or a gauzy-like surface. but it still doesnt matter, cuz they both function the same way. its just a matter of preference.

What boxing bag would be good for a begginer?

k so im just starting boxing and i have to purchase the equipment from my own money. i have around 150$ . would you suggest i buy a speed bag first or a heavy bag?|||You'll actually get more use and benefit from a heavy bag. Go to any sporting goods Store, or Ringside.com or Title Boxing and get the basic 70 lb. canvas bag to start. Work the bag like you would an opponent and box it, just don't bang away at it. Try different styles|||the heavy bag first power and technique then speed...|||I would buy a heavy bag first, speed bags come later.

How do I incorporate weight training into my boxing training?

I want to add weight training into my boxing training; I only plan on designating 1 day a week for weight training. I want a complete body workout (upper body, core, legs). What workouts should I do for each section (all workout machines are available to me)? I do not want to use a barbell; I prefer controlled weights, dumbells, and the machines. Serious answers are well appreciated. Thanks|||U can left weight but it must be light and high in reps. Shoulders chest and legs are ok. Don't do bi's or tri's they will slow u down.

How do you avoid lactic acid decrease in your muscles when boxing?

I'm incredibly sore a few days after boxing. Someone told me that it's because lactic acid is being pulled out of your muscles when boxing. How do you stop this? Is it partially due to diet?|||\

Why does lactic acid build up in muscles? And why does it cause soreness?

Stephen M. Roth, a professor in the department of kinesiology at the University of Maryland, explains.

As our bodies perform strenuous exercise, we begin to breathe faster as we attempt to shuttle more oxygen to our working muscles. The body prefers to generate most of its energy using aerobic methods, meaning with oxygen. Some circumstances, however, --such as evading the historical saber tooth tiger or lifting heavy weights--require energy production faster than our bodies can adequately deliver oxygen. In those cases, the working muscles generate energy anaerobically. This energy comes from glucose through a process called glycolysis, in which glucose is broken down or metabolized into a substance called pyruvate through a series of steps. When the body has plenty of oxygen, pyruvate is shuttled to an aerobic pathway to be further broken down for more energy. But when oxygen is limited, the body temporarily converts pyruvate into a substance called lactate, which allows glucose breakdown--and thus energy production--to continue. The working muscle cells can continue this type of anaerobic energy production at high rates for one to three minutes, during which time lactate can accumulate to high levels.

A side effect of high lactate levels is an increase in the acidity of the muscle cells, along with disruptions of other metabolites. The same metabolic pathways that permit the breakdown of glucose to energy perform poorly in this acidic environment. On the surface, it seems counterproductive that a working muscle would produce something that would slow its capacity for more work. In reality, this is a natural defense mechanism for the body; it prevents permanent damage during extreme exertion by slowing the key systems needed to maintain muscle contraction. Once the body slows down, oxygen becomes available and lactate reverts back to pyruvate, allowing continued aerobic metabolism and energy for the bodys recovery from the strenuous event.

Contrary to popular opinion, lactate or, as it is often called, lactic acid buildup is not responsible for the muscle soreness felt in the days following strenuous exercise. Rather, the production of lactate and other metabolites during extreme exertion results in the burning sensation often felt in active muscles, though which exact metabolites are involved remains unclear. This often painful sensation also gets us to stop overworking the body, thus forcing a recovery period in which the body clears the lactate and other metabolites.

Researchers who have examined lactate levels right after exercise found little correlation with the level of muscle soreness felt a few days later. This delayed-onset muscle soreness, or DOMS as it is called by exercise physiologists, is characterized by sometimes severe muscle tenderness as well as loss of strength and range of motion, usually reaching a peak 24 to 72 hours after the extreme exercise event.

Though the precise cause of DOMS is still unknown, most research points to actual muscle cell damage and an elevated release of various metabolites into the tissue surrounding the muscle cells. These responses to extreme exercise result in an inflammatory-repair response, leading to swelling and soreness that peaks a day or two after the event and resolves a few days later, depending on the severity of the damage. In fact, the type of muscle contraction appears to be a key factor in the development of DOMS. When a muscle lengthens against a load--imagine your flexed arms attempting to catch a thousand pound weight--the muscle contraction is said to be eccentric. In other words, the muscle is actively contracting, attempting to shorten its length, but it is failing. These eccentric contractions have been shown to result in more muscle cell damage than is seen with typical concentric contractions, in which a muscle successfully shortens during contraction against a load. Thus, exercises that involve many eccentric contractions, such as downhill running, will result in the most severe DOMS, even without any noticeable burning sensations in the muscles during the event.|||acid is a real pain while you train keep on the move instead of sitting down waiting stand up and walk around

I really love boxing its my craft...Thanks everyone!|||Just divide your time, you can do your training on the morning, 2 to 3 hours everyday is enough by 8 to 11 in the morning, just take your time during off like Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

If you really love being a boxer then you must find a ways to achieve your goal, spend your time wisely but avoid getting more tired so that you can cope your lessons while studying.

Good luck

..............|||Although it will affect, you can do it. I did it before to earn money for my school fees. I box at 7 till 19 while I go to school. What boxing gloves should i use when doing bag work?

I have been boxing for a couple of months now and i am just wondering whether it is better to use actually sparring gloves (12oz, ect) for bag work or just use bag gloves?|||Professionals use 14-16 oz. bag gloves but you can really get away with using anything, really. Just make sure it's not Everlast.|||1 pair of hand wraps on each hand, and twins bag gloves, usually every brand has boxing gloves and bag gloves, boxing gloves are used for in the ring and if you use them on the bag you'll slide off and wont get better contact.|||depends on the weight of the bag and the texture.i use heavier gloves though|||12 oz..and 16 oz to spar..

How can I start boxing at age 15?

I have always wanted to box and have been playing football and rugby for years. I am 5'5 125 pounds. I need help figuring out how to join an amateur/junior boxing organization and what I need to train and also essential tips on being a good boxer. I need all the help I can get!|||First buy wraps, this doesn't sound essential but trust me good wraps make the difference between strong wrists or potentially breaking them, buy some good ones too (everlast makes good equipment for boxing all around). Obviously you need to buy some gloves no fancy decals on them straight black or straight red will do the trick. Sturdy pair of running shoes, we did a lot of running outside since the gym wasn't ideal for sprints and jogs. Get some loose fitting shorts (basketball shorts work well if you don't want to buy new boxing shorts) and a good loose fitting tank top or loose fitting shirt that you can move in comfortably. Practice holding your hands up I don't know who will be teaching/training you but they aren't too keen on people dropping their hands in the middle of drills and a lot of trainers/teachers do this as a drill where you hold your guard up for a decent amount of time or do continuous punches the point of it is "don't drop your guard". Be ready to do a lot of practicing in front of a mirror. Part of boxing is all about mistakes you need to correct yourself and looking in the mirror is part of this. You will be doing a lot of punches and stances in front of mirrors for quite sometime so you can visualize what you are doing and see your stances and punches. Practice shadow boxing. This is pretty much where you practice boxing by yourself and practice your stances and punches as if you were against an opponent (refers to you essentially practicing against your shadow on a wall but you don't need to do that). Also you will be training on a variety of bags so you should start working on practicing that if you have the opportunity too (such as speed bags which may take some time to get the hang of) but if you can't practice on bags before you start boxing don't worry you will get a lot of practice in.|||Find a local boxing gym and join up... Look it up on Google... Hopefully you do not have a glass jaw or you can kiss boxing goodbye...Find a good coach..train hard and learn the techniques ..if its your thing then you will do well... If not its a useful skill to learn...

Is boxing good for self defense? Is it hard to learn for someone with no fighting experience?

I am interested in learning boxing for self defense. Does anyone know if it is effective, and hard to learn? How do I find out more?|||Boxing is good for self defense its effective because it shows you how to punch how footwork affects your punching power and speed. If its hard to learn depends on how much effort you put into it.|||As far as I'm concerned, Boxing is THE most underrated combat art. Boxing will teach you how to take a punch also. Boxing also will give you so much confidence, that you'll AVOID fighing because you will be so mentally strong that you wont get offended by ignorant fools!!

How effective is boxing in a street fight situation?

Simple question, how effective is boxing in a street fight? Please do not say boxing is only good for sport or say that other martial arts are better. I just wanna know if its handy incase you get into a street fight.|||Pretty effective. I have a friend who is a boxer and he has decked a number of people in street fights already (I was there but I get hit a lot). He just knows where and how to punch and when it lands, his enemy will sure feel it because he punches a lot harder than anyone I know.|||It will help but anything goes in a street fight and size and strength matter more in a street fight!

but as far as punching it will help you but boxing is not for a street fight because of the big gloves street fight you can't fight how you fight in a ring! and boxing can only do so much because if you get to the floor is a whole different game.

the best way to be good in a street fight is to have more street fights it's like practice you will get better, before you know it you'll be kicking anybodys azz!|||If you are skilled at boxing.. fight on the balls of your feet {not flat footed so you can't move}..keep your guard up and keep moving ...there is no reason why it wouldn't work in a street fight. It has for me in the past.

But Bruce Lee said " The best way not to get hit is to not be there!" so do not get into that situation.

First use your brains and talk your way out then use your speed and run your way out and {if given no other choice} fight your way out..ie do only as much as it take to make a gap and get the hell out!!

Street fights are stupid dangerous and unpredictable and who says they don't have mates waiting to jump in or a weapon even a gun.

Street fighting will always get someone hurt sometimes even seriously or dead! Avoid it if at all possible!|||Effective? There's nothing BETTER.

I been boxing since I was a teenager, and I grew up pounding the SHT out of anyone who wanted it. You get any good at it you'll cut your opponent to fckin pieces before he even knows what the fck happened, sittin on his *** with his jaw hangin off his face.|||Boxing is very effective in a street fight. If it's a one on one fight. A gang street fight will get you killed by a bullet. But it is in our nature to start throwing punches even if we don't know squat about boxing. In that way knowledge is power.|||To tell you the truth, everytime I got into a street fight the other guy was scared to fight back.

I think being able to handle a fight calmly is the best technique|||If you are good yes it can be effective, if you think you are good it will get you killed.|||Yes it is. Boxers have stronger punches than average. And their stamina is very good too.

What's the difference between fight boxing gloves and sparring gloves?

I need to know the difference and if I will need both when i start boxing next month, thx.|||Sparring gloves are nice, big, and padded with 3-6 layers of foam so you wont hurt your sparring partner as much. Pro fight gloves are designed with lesser padding so you will hurt your opponent.

How can I control my breathing while boxing?

I've been boxing for about two months now and I really want to be able to breathe properly. In the begining I was totally holding my breath (not purposely it just happened) when I was sparring and on the bags. Now I try to consciously breath thru my nose when I back away and out my mouth when I punch. I just can't seem to get the rhythm. Any tips?|||You might find helpful fast walks or joggling to get your breathing sorted. Worked wonders for me.|||My friend - I have trained fighters.

The only way you can control your breathing is to do your roadwork.

Make sure your butt is out there running at least three times a week.

Ask your trainer.|||mouth wide open|||Im sure you heard this before as i have from my trainers...be relaxed in the ring, when you are bouncing around the ring, get youre breath, and then when you attack, let out short controlled breaths while strikiing...thats why you hear boxers make little "huh-huh-huh" sounds while delivering a 3 punch combo...a little breath out for each punch.|||get fitter and then breathing reamins much more normal and rythmatic during exercise|||pratice im afraid, took me a long time to get it down to a t|||By the time I got around to traditional boxing I had done four years of Karate, then Muay Thai boxing. One major difference with these martial arts is that you Kiai when delivering a blow. A kiai is a forced exhalation of the breath combined with a loud "huh" or similar from deep inside the diaphragm. It's dual purpose is in intimidating your opponent but more importantly in stabilising the core muscles around the abdomen area so that if counter-struck you are ready to absorb the blow.

To cut a long story short this continual and routine practised breathing; timed to coincide with the delivery of your movements could be a beneficial thing for you to practise. Maybe try Muay Thai once a week to complement your exisiting training.

Hope that helps!|||Ask your trainer.|||It takes practice.|||As a martial artist for the last 36 years I hope that the following is of some help.

You are breathing out when hitting which is correct, but you should not breath through your mouth. Learn to make short controlled bursts through your nose, a bit like sniffing only backwards. Timing these bursts of air with your punches means that one breath in can mean lots of little breaths out, and therefore lots of punches per breath.

Always wear your gumshield when out jogging and when skipping.

Get fit and learn to relax while fighting because tension eats at your oxygen levels.

Best of luck dude|||You could send it to school and have it trained.|||relax your shoulders and use less power and add more speed. It's hard to breath when you become too intense.|||Ask your coach for suggestions|||Try getting some Alexander technique lessons - that helps with your breathing I have heard

Is adding some boxing to Hapkido good for overall punching power? The kicks and throws in Hapkido are awesome but the punches are weaker. If i add some boxing will it improve my overall striking?|||Positively, it will gonna improve your overall striking, remember that boxing concentrate on techniques, likely; stance, punches (jab, cross, hook, uppercut), defense (slip, sway, duck, bobbing, parry, cover-up, clinch) and guard.

Punching power are being improve by doing proper stance and correct punches, of course regular practice and dedication to achieve it, focus, timing and concentration.

Good luck|||You can never go wrong with adding some boxing training into your overall martial arts training. I'd actually say that punch defense is the best skill that boxing gives you, and that's great for self-defense because punches are arguably the most common form of attack. Boxing training also gives you good conditioning, improves your timing, and as you noted, is known for focusing on punching power. I'd say go for it.|||Yes boxing is the perfect compliment to any martial art. Especially arts like judo or hapkido

What's the difference between kickboxing, boxing and muay thai?

I want to to take either kickboxing, boxing or muay thai. I've been studying tae kwon do for five years and want to expand my knowledge for martial arts. Which do you reccomend?|||1. Boxing uses only punches or upper body strikes. You can't strike below the belt under any circumstances.

2. Kick-boxing is just like boxing, only you can use kicks.

3. Muay Thai- is Thai Boxing. You can strike with fist, elbows, knees, and feet.

Mauy Thai is definitely the one of the "in" martial arts of the day, because it is so effective. More than likely you will find all three at the same gym. They all use the same training equipment. Right now I believe that an American style of Muay Thai has developed.

American Thai Boxing, is usually taught by a professional kick- boxer. He just incorporates the elbow and knee strikes. This style is so effective that some of the highest ranked Muay Thai fighters are from Western Countries.

My opinion of Muay Thai is very high. Also, I believe that the Western versions offer better defense, than the traditional.|||Really cool.... I took TKD for 6 years, and I went to a boxing gym a hand full of times.... You wouldn't believe how much better you will be at what you know after putting on some gloves and going for it, getting hit and all that jazz.... I recently have started taking Muay Thai... Its a great sport and MArtial Art... it gets rough, but it will help you "close the gap" of point sparring.... once you do that.. you will be better prepeared in a "real" situation" any of the three would be good... Jus remember when you go to a new school be respectful and humble, if they ask if you have had training, the answer is "Yes Sir or Mam".. Not "I am a BB in TKD" as that will put a target on you (maybe not so much for a girl, but for a guy)... I like the coments I get from my Muay Thai school,, "damn dude what did you take?"|||Sorry not an expert here but just for your information, if you take boxing regards to other martial arts; how can boxing be better than kickboxing when they can use their legs ?

Muai Thai is the toned down version of Muay Boran. Muay Boran is supposed to be deadly. Hope you can learn that exotic art.

How does the undercard work in a boxing match?

I am going to my first boxing match, and I have no idea how it works. If I bought tickets for the main event do I get to watch the undercard fights as well? If the fight is said to start at 6:30 does that mean that the undercards start at that time or the main event starts at that time? I greatly appreciate your input.|||If a boxing card is slated to start at 6:30 PM. That means that the undercard will start at that time. Usually, a card begins with boxers who are young in their career. They may be making their pro debut and they are fighting in bouts scheduled for four rounds.

Not knowing who is on the card or how many bouts are on the card you are going to, I can't tell you how the show will go. A typical card that is not televised may have two or three four-round bouts, then maybe up to three six-round contests. A main event may be an eight or 10-round contest or even a 12-rounder if it is for a regional or major title.

Most jurisdictions have a set number of rounds that have to be scheduled before a card can take place.

Undercard bouts can be a lot of fun because years from now if a boxer makes it big, you can say that you saw him in his early bouts.

How many people in total died in the Boxing Day Tsunami?

And also how much was the damage bill for the damage caused?

Also, what was the worst affected area?

Answers would be great, thanks!|||I think the conclusion was that it is incalculable - many of the countries affected don't keep adequate records of their population. Affected areas were the countries bordering the Indian Ocean - particularly badly hit was Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Thailand, but the effects were felt as far as Africa. Is the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines doing well for boxing in the Philippines?

If you can recommend measures to upgrade the quality of amateur boxing in the Philippines, what will these be?|||I SHOULD SAY NO. I think you already knew the answer to this question yourself. For starters, the amateur boxing association of the Philippines or ABAP has not enough funds or money to sponsor the up coming amateur boxers in the country or give them enough training or equipment in the first place.

I THINK most boxers are sponsor by a third party and the ABAP have to negotiate to these parties to get the best boxers in the Philippines. It is like a cattle for purchase. Most are being train by different group and not own by ABAP.

UPGRADE THE QUALITY of boxers in the Philippines? Is this a joke? Our people cannot even have a decent 3 meals a day and you are asking for a quality boxers of the Philippines. If you travel in the provinces, most of these promising boxers are punching a bag made out of rice sake and filled with sands or gravel from a construction site. Is this normal? They haven't got a decent boxing gloves to begin with but with only a wrap up old cloths and some rages. Nakakaiyak kung makikita mo ang kanilang pagka puspusan magensayo at maging isa na naman Manny Pacquiao at siempre yumaman. This people are entering boxing not for the fame or glory to the Philippines but for the MONEY IT WILL BRING TO THEIR FAMILY. Dahil nga kay Manny. Is this normal to you? To me it is not. We are twisting the very foundation of boxing since Manny arrived.

As long as we are considered a POOR country, no matter how diligent we are to promote boxing career for our Filipinos it will go down the drain.|||Nope, sports here in the Phil was never a priority. Could anybody tell me what the precautions are?|||Stick and move!! Jab, jab! On a serious note, maybe you weren't looking for precautions like wear a helmet or don't get hit in the head, but instead for warnings or advice from other boxers. I'd say experiences are subject to great variations. Perhaps make a compromise and tell her you'd like to try it out for X amount of time to see if you have the reflexes for it. If you're too slow, you will take a lot of blows, potentially to the head, and maybe you weren't cut out for it and will agree to give up and avoid becoming a cabbage head.|||well man, thats not truew the memory loss from boxing... sorry to your mom. you get beat up pretty bad, but nothing that serious.

How do people get interested in boxing other than upbringing?

I know for a lot of people, watching boxing starts at an early age with the family. How would people get interested in it other than that? Do they just happen to see it on tv and start watching? Is it because of the movies?|||I just got into boxing in recent years. The way I got into it was watching HBO's "The Tale of... (ie The Tale of Hagler-Hearns)". Watch the whole series, and it really gives you a feel of the history of boxing. Not only do you learn about the older fighters, but you learn a lot more about boxing, and what it entails. You also get to watch some of the best fights in history.

The reason I like watching Boxing, is because every fight has a chance to make history. You never know what fight is going to be exciting or boring. You never know what to expect, because knockouts come out of no where. You just have to start learning about specific fighters, and root for the fighter you like. It's just like watching basketball, it's just not as fun watching 2 teams you have no feelings for.|||Why don't you try going to the gym where there is some boxing equipment and try it out and if you like it then you may want to start watching it on TV.|||To answer your question fully would take time and may bore. A precis was watching Ali in the mid 70s, Alan Minter, Hagler, Antofermo fights in the 80s and watch the careers of the Frank Bruno and Barry McGuigan being shown on BBCTV Sport before they became world champions. Interested in boxing through reading as well and watching Rocky movies. Sad!|||aggression|||Well, I have had neither an upbringing in boxing nor any boxing experience, but I am still interested in being a boxer just for fun. However, what makes me wait to actually try it out are my fears that I haven't worked out enough. I think I need to be more fit and have at least some more understanding of how boxing works because I don't want to go into the ring and start losing. That would be embarrassing. I'm sure it would also be painful; often, the prospect of pain is what puts people off for boxing. We've heard about those people who've gotten brain damage and bad things like that from boxing injuries.

However, addressing your real question, I have to say that I got inspired to be a boxer from some people that I know some information about who like to box, such as Vivek Oberoi. He's an actor but used to box. I'm sure I was also inspired by movies and such romanticizing the sport, such as Cinderella Man. I even saw some episode from the Simpsons in which Homer boxes foolishly.

Nonetheless, the fact that I have my premonitions about inevitable injury and failure prove that such inspirations aren't enough to get me into the ring.|||For one thing, boxing is a blue-collar sport- always has been and always will be. If you're living in suburbia, the less likely your kids will take boxing seriously. The streets is where the passion of boxing lies and where the greatest boxers were molded into champions. In suburbia, people do not have to fight as much to get what they want. If you wanna raise boxing-oriented kids, you have to instill a killer street instinct because its less about tv/movies as it is about socialization.

What is Boxing day and why is it called that?

I always go to Ireland in summer and sometimes in winter to visit my grandparents. The day after Christmas is called Boxing day over there. What is boxing day?|||Everyone straps on the gloves and gets in the ring! Its great!

It started because the servant classes had to work on Christmas day and the day after Christmas was their day off to exchange gifts with friends and family.|||As far as I have been told the name Boxing day comes from the early 1600's / 1700's

On Christmas day the servants would need to work to serve the food to the masters / rich people. This meant that the servants themselves could not celebrate Christmas day. Also they often would not have the money to spend on a special Christmas meal.

As there was often food left over from the Christmas dinner at the masters house, the food would be distributed amongst different boxes. The master would give a box to each servant and sent them home to celebrate Christmas with the family.

Hence the name Boxing day.

Not sure if this is 100% historically correct and there might be many stories around, but this seems to me a very plausible explanation of the name Boxing day.|||Boxing Day is usually on 26 December in the United Kingdom, Canada and some other Commonwealth countries. The day after Christmas Day is also known as St Stephen's Day or the Feast of Stephen as mentioned in the carol 'Good King Wenceslas'.

The origins of Boxing Day are uncertain. The name could have come about from the custom of priests opening alms boxes in churches after Christmas. These held money which had been given for needy people in the days coming up to Christmas. Another story of how it began is from the tradition of employers and wealthy people giving their servants and trades people Christmas boxes (gifts) as a way of saying thank you for good service throughout the year.|||Boxing Day is a bank holiday or a public holiday in the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Germany, New Zealand, Hong Kong, and countries in the Commonwealth of Nations with a mainly Christian population. In South Africa this public holiday is now known as the Day of Goodwill.

St. Stephen's Day, or the Feast of St. Stephen, is a Christian saint's day celebrated on 26 December in the Western Church and 27 December in the Eastern Church. Many Eastern Orthodox churches adhere to the Julian calendar and mark St. Stephen's Day on 27 December according to that calendar, which places it on January 9 according to the Gregorian calendar used in secular (and Western) contexts. It commemorates St Stephen, the first Christian martyr or protomartyr.|||Boxing Day is the after Christmas, which was synonymous with the boxing and exchanging of gifts that would normally occur on this day by the slaves.

Hope this helps.

How come boxing/boxer is more accepted and earns good cash than any other fighting sports?

Boxing compare to MMA, wrestling and any other

sports that has an opponent to beat...is much famous, much

entertaining and is in a good business relationship.

how come? why arent other sports mentioned at top did not

reach the level of want like boxing?|||Because, despite the said decline of boxing following, it is still the most watched and most profitable fighting sport as of now.

If there are still plenty of people who want to spend their money to watch PPV or live boxing matches, boxers will still be the highest paid fighting athletes.

Apparently, MMA is on the rise. But promoters are still not gutsy enough to pay millions of dollars even to the elite and marketable Cage fighters. Promoters have to be sure of their return of investment and a fighter salary of millions is too risky. It may end up as a financial loss for them.

Boxing had somewhat slowed this past decade because of fixed fights, corrupt promoters, lacked of drama (post-Tyson), and maybe because of competition from UFC. But now, I'm quite glad because of Pacquiao, Marquez, Cotto, Mosley, and even the villain in Mayweather, boxing has been going strong again.

MMA might catch up and maybe overtake boxing but only time can tell. Boxing has a legacy founded for more than a hundred years. Heroes and Legends were made since then. Boxing won't fade away that easily.|||Boxing is the most famous because of it's history and promotion.

MMA is very popular right now but isn't as "classy" as boxing. Despite its recent decline in popularity it still draws the rich and famous ringside for every championship fight.

Boxing also allows for athletes to have more longevity than MMA. The typical elite boxer can stay competitive for 15-20 years. MMA fighters careers are at risk every fight.

Wrestling, if you are talking WWE, is not a real sport. Grecco Roman wrestling is just not as exciting as sports that allow striking.|||ODDS OF BETTING.

Sports is a business; never mind the nonsense everyone else talks about. At the end of the day, it all boils down to what generates money.

The odds in MMA, should really be near 50/50 because of all the factors that can turn the fight around. Sure in boxing, as they say, one punch can change the fight. But really, there is more skill involved in boxing that can be calculated because of the specific set of rules, the training camps, and the specific styles of each fighter.

Because the odds of picking a winner in boxing is easier to study and stay true, boxing will always be a big sport.

This is why the mafia used to be heavily involved, this is why a lot of stars goes to see the fights, this is why Vegas will always be happy to host Boxing, this is why elite boxers get paid better. It's the best sport to gamble on!

Forget betting on a team in sports; counting every member on the team gives too much factors. One on one fighting gives you less factors to count.

Boxing has strict rules which slims down the factor of randomness, also called intangibles, that MMA is more prone to. Boxing will never die.

The SPORT that generates the most business on every level WILL ALWAYS get the MOST MONEY.

ELITE BOXERS ARE NEEDED IN SPORTS MORE THAN ANY OTHER TYPE OF FIGHTER.|||Because Boxing is scientific. no MMA participant would last more than one round with an experienced boxer. Who wants to see two bodies rolling on the floor in a scissor hold until one gets out of breath then the other wins, this is not a skill. While the MMA or kick boxer are thinking about using a leg or a fist the GOOD boxer would have knocked him out. Every time i watch a boxing match i am working out the style of each boxer and can look for the specific punch from each boxers opposing styles which may create the knockout or an opening for a knockout. Because each boxer is judging the other scientifically using timing, balance, power and intelligence to hit without being hit back.

Wrestling is pantomime, fake, why do you mention wrestling ???

Do your self a favour %26gt; watch Muhammad Ali and you will have your answer.|||MMA and most other exotic forms of fighting sports are a bit too unusual to attract the wide audience that boxing covers. It reminds me of the 70s when Evel Knievel and a hand-full of wannabes were jumping motorcycles and some people had the crazy notion that one day jumping a bike over long distances would be a legitimate sport.

Besides boxing, I've always enjoyed kickboxing and am surprised it has never grown into a really big attraction. In this country at least.|||Because boxing is real. Sure, there have been some fixed fights, but very few over the years. All wrestling matches are choreographed. Wrestling is not a sport. It's an exhibition. So is MMA. If MMA was real, we would have a lot more dead "fighters."

Boxing is the only legitimate "fighting" sport.

When I was a kid, I believed Antonino Rocca and Killer Kowalski were in real fights. I would argue and even fight with anyone who said otherwise. Then I learned the truth.

Wrestlers are great athletes, no question. But so are dancers.|||simple boxing and wrestilng are the closest figting style to what our insticts tell as what to do when were in a fight. for example if your in a fight what is the first thing you will do? you will strat t throw punches just like in boxing and when when your oponent is almost beat up you will do (or at least think to do) something massive to finish him just like in wrestling whenthey pick up chairs and hit the oponnent. And because these fighting styles are similar to our instinct they appeal to us.|||Cause even though it's been on a long downward slope, boxing is still the sweet science! Boxing has been around for 100 years and has a rich history.

Wrestling?? lol....that's not a sport. It's theatre.

MMA is a fad. Does anyone over the age of 25 care about it?|||I think MMA is presently more popular. I just think boxing has a longer history. If these other sports have the same kind of history, their champions will be as popular and they will attract the same type of money.|||Because everyone can see cage fighting at their local pub on a friday night, where as boxing takes skill.|||because the boxers represent their countries and race and they want to see what country or race is better! for example PAcman is loved in the filipines .|||coz boxing's been here for like billions of years...but i like mma, particularly ufc!

How do you become a professional boxing referee?

I love watching boxing and would love to find out if I have what it takes to be a ref.|||I hate to say this, but it takes political connections. You have certain licensing procedures for each state, but the process is similar to getting a real estate license. Getting a real estate license doesn't guarantee you go out and start selling houses for people, and just because you have a license to ref fights doesn't mean your going to get any fights to ref. You have to have political connection to even get a start, then you have to build a reputation, just like in any other business.

What are the weight classifications in boxing?

I'm writing a paper and need to know the classifications in boxing like featherweight, welterweight, etc and the order they go in. Thanks a million!|||go to www.pubquizhelp.34sp.com

What weight boxing gloves should i get for training on a punchbag?

Im 6 foot and about 180 pounds in weight, so was wondering what kind of weight boxing gloves i should get. Im quite new to boxing and would appreciate some expert opinion. I just bought a new free standing punch bag and really want to unleash on it but dont want to damage my hands. Ive heard that Twins, Cleto Reyes, Winning, Grants are all good makes.

Thanks in advance,

Wolverine187|||Bag gloves should be about 12-16 ounces. I'd recommend 14 ounces.

But remember, if you want jacked up product and shipping costs, as well as customer service incompetence and complete corruption and rip-off tactics, by all means order from Everlast or Title. Their business is selling cheap (and often previously used), half-broken, Chinese-made products at 5x their value, while shipping it at additional unreasonable rates, while being governed or oversaught by no one with any moral or ethical values towards keeping the company name at what it once was. Some will say that only their lower-end stuff is garbage, but it's the same with even their higher-end stuff as well. Funniest of all, you'll order an item when it's on sale and they'll confirm that the item in question is indeed on sale, but they'll secretly bill you for the standard item price and other sneaky little corporate bullshit like that. It's sad, really. If anyone reading this doesn't believe me on anything I've said, please order from them and witness it for yourself.

Anyway, onward to the brands of boxing products. For boxing products in general, I would recommend Ringside, Grant, Cleto Reyes, and Combat Sports if you want a decent product for a decent price. Search them and you'll find their sites or sites that you can order their products from. If you're willing to shell out a lot of money for some really good gear on the high end of the market, get Cleto Reyes or Grant. Absolute top-notch gear, but very pricey.

But remember, nothing from Everlast or Title, ever. No matter how small or simple the order. Good luck.|||Thanks for the insight on the cheap gloves, I always thought Everlast was a good product, boy was I wrong. I didn't know Title was also garbage, I will definitely buy Ringside or Combat sports for use during my bouts.

|||16 oz. wil do fine. Closer to fight time, go with the lighter bag gloves to get more of a feel for the way it will be in the ring on fight night. 16 oz. is good for day-to-day training.|||Use heavy ones to protect the hands and build muscle.|||24 oz gloves because they are padded and will build muscle

How would i start a backyard boxing league and how would i pay the fighters?

It would be safe. They would have head gear and boxing gloves. Of course, no low blows, They would have protective cups.|||Put a sign in the front entrance of your trailor park. What weight class should I play in for boxing?

I am 14 and currently 126 pounds 5 foot 7 inches. I Would love to have a successful season in boxing and was wondering how much weight I should cut for boxing. I am only about 9% body fat so the most I could drop is only 12-10 pounds but any tips would be helpful.|||haha you don't play boxing like you play football or baseball and we don't have season if . first i think you should read up on boxing and look in to a boxing gym. not a health place. but a real boxing gym. but you at a good weight 126 featherweight. but your 14 you'll grow and stuff. you could be a beast. work on speed and foot work.

How to master the art of slipping in boxing?

Now I know offense plays an important role in boxing but a good defense also makes you a good boxer. Are there any good exercises to enhance slipping punches in boxing or bobbing %26amp; weaving? Much would be greatly appreciated.|||First don't spar with your hand back, b/c you will get a rhythms and its a bad habit if sudden you put your hands down in a competition. You hands always be up to block and slip without a notice. If your hands are in your back you are likely to get hit and the opponent will know you are trying to slip and counter. Have a opponent go shoot right and left consecutively toward you, while you slip left and right. USE your legs as your slip will be super fast if your legs bend with your slip. This you can dodge almost any hit.|||Slip line, Oblique training, ab rotation training.

yeaaah, thats all i can think of.. try sparring with your hands tied behind your back and doge punches|||One word that masters the word of mastery.

What is the difference between boxing and kickboxing?

Im a 17 year old female that is interested in joining a boxing gym but im not exactly sure what i would be getting my self into. Also, what is the difference between boxing and kickboxing? I play softball but i have cataracts and it is beginning to effect the way i play so boxing/kickboxing is on my list. If anyone goes to The Boxing Gym in the St. Louis area could you tell me about how much classes cost?

Thank you|||Kickboxing includes kicks and the biggest difference might be in how they evade strikes. In boxing, you would duck lower and uses steps more but in kickboxing, you shouldn't duck low since there are possibility of getting kicks or knees to the face and you don't want to step around or hop around too much since it'll make it harder to block the leg kicks.

Anyways, I do both and I like both just as much. There's a good boxing gym in Manhattan. It's on 5th Ave, 28th street and it cost $139 per month and it's open 7am-9pm and you can come in any time you want and stay as long as you want.|||I suggest you take kickboxing classes. I mean you have hands as your basic weapons you were born with but your legs can pack a lot of damage as well. Besides, why limit yourself?|||boxing= just punches and blocks

kickboxing= punches with kicks

i say go with kickboxing because its more variety of striking form|||Boxing is with the use of hands only. Kickboxing is with use of both hands and feet.|||KICKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I want to start shadow boxing but will it make my shoulders bigger?

Im 16 and 5ft9. i was thinking of start shadow boxing for exercise but i dont want my shouders getting bigger? Will it make them bigger.|||To the guy above, lifting weights is completely unnecessary for boxing. You're full of crap.

Shadow boxing by itself should not cause your shoulders to get bigger. Just make sure you stay away from weights if you want to avoid hypertrophy.|||1) Why do you care if your shoulders get bigger?

2) People on the internet said that if you punch and kick (you don't have to be at a punching bag) then you will get faster, I can testify for this.

3) Lastly shadow boxing is just a small exercise, just like pushups you do 15, 20, 40 whatever each day. You shouldn't make a big deal about it. When you exercise just do 10 minutes or so. Just do it, who cares about how your arm looks. Being strong is what counts|||Boxing by itself is mostly just a ton of cardio. You see boxers on tv that are ripped because they do a ton of weight-lifting and strength training as part of their program. You NEED muscles (and thus weight lifting) to be an effective boxer...but if you're just going to do shadow boxing and not complete/spar against others, you won't need power.

Go ahead and shadow-box. Your shoulders won't get bigger by just doing that.

How good is boxing for self defense?

I've been doing boxing for 2 months now, 4 times a week for 2 hours at a time. I have been sparring but really I took it for self defense. Im not looking to be a boxing champion but I already feel like with what I learned I could easily take some guy on a street. What do you think is boxing any good on the street?|||psh, good luck with that|||Boxing is poor self defence, only being of some help AFTER it has turned into a fight. principals of protection such as avoidance, evasion, escape, or even just talking your way out of it are missing from boxing. Boxers are good punchers, and good at avoiding punches, but that is as far as it gets. Boxing is assuredly better than nothing, but if protection is your goal, find a classical martial art instructor versed in protection and learn from him/her. There is so much more to protection than boxing teaches.|||Boxing is not exactly a graceful sport, but it is meant for excercise as well as a "conditioning" thing. I am sure that boxing can be great for self-defense, but, say, if the person who attacked you has a knife, stick, gun, or has you in a jointlock, then boxing wouldn't do you much good. However, if the person is going to hurt you or someone else, and hasn't got a weapon out or doesn't have a hold on you, then boxing would be a great way to end the fight before it started.

I take Hap Ki Do (The Art Of Coordinated Power). It is a Korean martial art. Hap Ki Do focuses on joint locks and self-defense rather than attacks. Tai Kwon Do focuses on kicks, while Ju Do focuses on throwing. Hap Ki Do is kind of a mix of Karate (Japanese), Tai Kwan Do (Chinese), and Ju Do (Japanese).

Feel free to criticize me!|||Well yeah it's pretty good for self defense, I mean 70% of boxing is about conditioning so it makes you plenty strong(yes strength is a factor in street fights guys) and the techniques are basic enough to grasp so once you learn them all its just a matter of refining them, , now of course boxing is a combat sport first but unlike other fighting systems it teaches one thing that a lot of others don't, (KEEP YOUR GODDAMN HANDS UP TO PROTECT YOUR HEAD) and another thing that makes it good is unlike some martial arts all the sparring is full contact ,Unfortunately the gloves are a draw back because in a street fight you obviously don't have them so the possibility of breaking your own hands is greater, tell your coaches you're training more for self defense than competitive fighting and I'm sure they'll know how best to help you train it better for self defense. good luck to you bro|||It can be.

But for self-defense you follow the rules,

Be aware of what happening around you, if you feel uncomfortable or your little voice is saying something wrong, leave.

Know were all the exits are and how to get to them.

Nothing you own is worth your life, if you are confronted and they want your stuff, give it to them odds are once they get it they will leave.

If you are in danger, and you must fight hit HARD, aim for knees, nose, you want to be able to getaway. Once you get a chance to run, RUN!. While you're fighting make a LOT of noise, yell "CALL 911, I NEED THE POLICE! CALL 911"

NEVER get into your attractors vehicle or let them take you someplace else, EVER. If they want to take you someplace else, they mean to do you harm, so fight.

If you carry pepper spray, buy two and have someone use one on you, no matter what you do if you use spray you will get some on yourself and if you don't know what to expect you may have just disabled yourself.

If you carry a weapon know how to use it, and be willing to hurt or kill the person, if you can't hurt or kill them don't carry it.|||Just boxign is definitely not enoigh for self defense, unleeyou're lucky to knock your opponent out with one punch. but think about it, they can kick you (this is why you need muai thai) and take you to the ground (you need submission grappling)...

your answer is MMA. YOU WILL STILL BE ABLE TO BOX!|||It's enough to knockout people relatively your size in a bar fight. I wouldn't recommend it as your sole tool against murderers, criminal gangs, mobs, serial killers, or terrorists however.

SD has different levels depending on what threat level you are facing. Some people only face drunks, bar fights, and the like. But there are entire oceans of other levels out there, far above that one.|||Yes, especially since you will be used to taking, defending, and avoiding full speed punches. This is not to say that it is superior or inferior to other methods, but simply that it is good and effective.|||It depends on several factors

- Are you any good at it?

- is the person attacking you better?|||if i pull out a weapon or tackle you

What are some good workouts to prepare for boxing?

I am lookin to get into boxing im 15yrs old 130 pounds 5'7". I was wondering if any of yall knew anything to prepare for boxing succh as increasing agility, stamina, and strength.|||Why don't you go to one of those boxing gyms, and try and find out, if someone is willing to take you on, and train you

How many real good answers are you going to get in here.

good luck.|||Start out with jumprope for 3 minutes, then do pushups, pullups, or punch on a heavy bag. You should also lift weights. Also do box jumps.|||I'm so glad you're thinking about trying out boxing.

Boxing training is often cited by medical doctors, boxing trainers, and writers as one of the most spartan forms of sports training. I would advise you to join a boxing gym so they can see your weaknesses and empower 'em and they see what you do best and they improve you.

Actually, a friend of mine who joined a boxing gym (for a month and he quit) told me that basic training routine he did as a beginner were:-

-Hitting the heavy punching-bag.

-Hitting the speed bag.

-Hitting the double-end bag.

-Shadowboxing in front of a mirror. (believe me, it's important).

-Skipping

-Sit-ups, Push-ups, and back pull ups.

-Jogging everyday.

-Sparring (occasionally).

As you advance, the training routine gets harder, you may not know what will your trainer order you to do. But usually you must have the passion to box. You must be ready to start jogging 10 miles in the morning in a program that may be similar to this one:-

Lets suppose you're gonna fight for 10 rounds each round will be 3 minutes long, then your program might be:-

Warm up %26gt; run as fast as you can for 3 minutes %26gt; jog for one minute %26gt; run as fast as you can for 3 minutes etc... And here you go. You run as fast as you can for 3 minutes 10 times and you have 1 minute to jog between each 3 minutes.

Your trainer may also want you to swim so you can gain stamina and stretch muscles you never knew.

But you don't need to worry about all that as long as you're a beginner. Good Luck.

P.S.: I found this link for you, you may try it http://www.boxingtraining.net/|||You need to establish a normal routine that generally addresses all three, and add special workouts throughout the week to work each in more depth.

Generally, I work out like this:

1. Warm-up/Stretch

2. Shadow Box for 2 rounds (my rounds are 3min w/ 1min rest) (practice footwork, helps agility, and is also good for strength)

2a. Spar for 3-5 rounds. You don't have to do it everyday, but do it as much as possible.

3. Heavy Bag for 5-6 rounds (you can customize this to work on any of the above three, but remember technique)

4. Double End Bag for 3 rounds (don't stop punching, it will raise your punch count which is your stamina)

5. Jump Rope 3-5 rounds depending on how hard you are working out that day (everything else should be done fast, so this is the closest thing you get to a break during your workout)

6. Ab work (use medicine balls and do ten-counts)

On top of this normal routine, I'll add the following workouts

1. Wind-sprints (try and tie a rope around yourself, and have a friend hold on while you pull him).

2. Put a stack of anything on the floor over knee high, and jump side to side over the top of it for a couple rounds.

3. Push-ups, Pull-ups, and other calisthenics.

4. When you are feeling lazy, go ahead and lift weights. But don't do it too often.

I hope this helps. I didn't really specify what each workout accomplishes, but I'm sure you can figure it out.

What is the difference between Western European and Eastern European Boxing?

What is the difference between Western European and Eastern European Boxing? Bruce Lee said that Eastern European Boxing was great and all martial artists should do some training in it. What is the difference with the boxing of the west?|||idk, european striking in general is light on their feet with their center of gravity high. good for explosive punches and kicks.

When you start practising boxing do you have to punch in the face and get punched in the face?

I am planning to start practising boxing but i am concerned about the getting punched in the face thing. Can someone explain me real quick what the first few months of lessons are like?|||Amateur Boxing usually requires foam helmets which actually protect the face and head. If you are sparring with someone you really need to wear it. But if you are a beginner you first start with a punching bag and practice jabs and straight punches. It depends on the level of training you are in, for novice or beginners usually you really wont get hit in the face or head depending on your trainer.

For intermediate level hooks and uppercuts are practiced with a sparring partner which may require a really good trainer for this matter. I suggest that you start with practicing the fundamentals of boxing which include footwork and strength training. If you really don't want to get punched in the face or head immediately try sparring with a good trainer and let him/her know your concern.

I hope this helps out.|||well to begin with you wont be made to spar with other people, you will be doing the training like all the other boxers.

Depending on the coach and how well you are doing your coach may put you in to spar after a few weeks/months. But if you don't feel ready then tell your coach, don't be pressured into it. But after a while you may want to get in it will help you improve LOADS i always found i learnt things quicker when i could get into the ring and put them into practise seeing where to improve etc.

Hope that helped.|||you won't get punched in the face unless you choose to - full contact sparring is an option but you'd probably start off slow on bags and circuit training and such like.

once your confident enough you could think about starting to spar with other lads but like i said its all your choice. you wont be forced to do anything your not 100% sure of!|||Maybe you should try practicing running away from someone trying to punch you in the face first.

How important to American boxing is an Andre Ward victory in the Super 6 Final?

A) Is it important to American boxing that Ward wins?

B) Should all Americans support Ward the way British fans support Froch?|||A) Ward winning the super 6 would have no impact on American boxing and in my opinion would simply reveal the marketing trouble facing it. Could anyone imagine Adrian Gonzalez, Kevin Durant or Aaron Rogers dominating their sport in anonymity? Ice skaters and skiers have more name recognition than this guy and he's been the lead dog in boxings best division.

B) Absolutely, but it will not happen. Nationalistic apathy has crept into our society to the point that many people don't care about international competition of any kind unless their livelihood depends on it. It turned my stomach when a large chorus of boos occurred during The Star Spangled Banner in Hatton vs. Mayweather without those bums getting ran out of the building.|||A)

I said it before and was told I was wrong but I genuinely believe boxing promoters in America know that Mayweather, Hopkins etc are near to retiring. They know Mexico wont struggle to produce a star etc and seem worried about America in my opinion.Pacquiao is the worlds most famous and recognisable boxer just now,America no longer has a heavyweight champ etc,American boxing is headin towards its most anonymous stage on the world scale in years, possibly ever. This is why I believe Ward was given home advantage (perhaps I should stop saying advantage but it must help fighting at home)in each fight of the Super 6 (not in any way saying he would have lost the fights, just that he was the only one allowed this). Ward is a likeable character and is everything that boxing promoters want from a fighter outside the ring, I feel people have invested more in him than if he had been a thuggish braggart as this does nothing to draw in fans outside of boxing circles and people are tiring of such fighters.Ward has efverything going for him in that respect.

For me the fact that he was the only boxer allowed to fight at home in each fight tells me it is of great importance (either to his promoter,tv companies or the American public) that he got to the final. If it was so important he got to the final that he would be given special exceptions (when at the start of the tournament he was in no way the most established boxer) this screams to me that somewhere along the line someone/something relies (and relied since the start of the tournament) on Ward winning.

In a tournament of 6 international boxers where arguably Ward and Dirrell were the 5th and 6th most established/succesfull of the bunch why would the guy at the bottom get to call the shots ( I dont think Ward called the shots, but his promoter etc did)?

I will go as far as saying I think Dirrell was the sacrificial lamb in order that Ward could make it to the top.Someone must have deemed it neccessary that Ward was afforded more luxuries (for want of a better word) than Dirrell and surely this suggests that it was of great importance that Ward made it all the way.

B)They probably should get behind him but is a guy from New York for instance really going to be too bothered about a boxer that fights exclusively out of California?Part of Froch's appeal is that he has boxed all over England (norht, south, east, west)so allowed fans from Wales and Scotland to be near enough to watch him fight. This is why people from at least 3 British countries will get behind him, the fact he fights anywhere is part of his appeal.I dont think the same can be said of Ward at this stage.

If Ward wins the Super 6 then takes his show on the road and allows other Americans to watch him in person this will make him just as popular in the US as Froch is in the UK.

Thanks|||A) No. Its more important to American Boxing that Ward goes and forgets everything hes knows about boxing, then goes and finds Kevin Rooney and learns how to be a pressure fighting swarmer, who destroys people in the first round.

Then he should sit down and get lessons from the great Ricardo Mayorga on trash talking, and put those skills to use in every interview, press conference and weigh in that hes involved in.

Personalities and aggressiveness are more important than resumes for American boxing.

B) Yes and No.

Yes. They should sing, chant and beat drums as well like the Ricky Hatton fans. Get passionate, get ENERGISED! I mean if America was playing England in soccer, u'd support America right? That is if u even cared about soccer enough to know they were playing.

Then again, No, because while team sports have a more tribal undercurrent, in individual sports you should be able to base ur like/dislike on the individual.|||A~ I don't think that it is too important that Andre Ward wins because he has already proved what he can do, so if Carl Froch beats Ward i will not discredit ward, but give Carl Froch his due credit instead.

B~I feel they already do in the state of California, but if he was to fight Bernard Hopkins Ward would be a cashcow just like Mayweather and Pacquiao.|||It's important for US to restore back it's boxing supremacy and competitiveness! Boxing has decline in the US while it still remains popular in Britain. So I am hoping with the decking US fans, at least they can support Ward because he is the one last hope for US other than Donaire, Bradley, and Ortiz!|||not at all

How long does hot boxing my bathroom with a vaporizer smell for?

I want to try hot boxing my bathroom with a vaporizer but I am having trouble finding anything on the internet about that. Anyone have any input? How long does hotboxing your bathroom usually smell for?|||Hey i'm the perfect person for this, I smoke in my bathroom like EVERY NIGHT. Lol. If you keep the vent on that sucks up air, and you fill up a steamy hot bathtub, and you smoke around the vent, the smell shouldn't linger too much. But to ensure this, run the shower with really hot water and keep the curtain open when you are done, while spraying a little of something strong by the door (underneath [oh yeah and keep a towel by the crack under the door so the smell doesn't escape into the halls.]) Using some kind of cleaner on your sink and around the rims of your tub will also add to the covering of the smell. Thats what I do! And if the bathroom may be used by someone else soon after, I would no suggest doing this. Make sure to dispose of all evidence of you even in there, turn the fan off, spray a little more or something with s scent (Hairspray, perfume, ect). And finally, for yourself. Put something in your hair to get rid of them smell in your hair. And go into you room with the clothes you had on in the bathroom, and change immediately after putting you "supplies" away. Put your clothes somewhere the odor will not be too strong, and you're good!

I hope this helps. It works for me every time. Just concentrate on the vent, the stream from the shower, the sprays, your hair, and clothes. You should be good then.
