How can I start boxing at age 15?
I have always wanted to box and have been playing football and rugby for years. I am 5'5 125 pounds. I need help figuring out how to join an amateur/junior boxing organization and what I need to train and also essential tips on being a good boxer. I need all the help I can get!|||First buy wraps, this doesn't sound essential but trust me good wraps make the difference between strong wrists or potentially breaking them, buy some good ones too (everlast makes good equipment for boxing all around). Obviously you need to buy some gloves no fancy decals on them straight black or straight red will do the trick. Sturdy pair of running shoes, we did a lot of running outside since the gym wasn't ideal for sprints and jogs. Get some loose fitting shorts (basketball shorts work well if you don't want to buy new boxing shorts) and a good loose fitting tank top or loose fitting shirt that you can move in comfortably. Practice holding your hands up I don't know who will be teaching/training you but they aren't too keen on people dropping their hands in the middle of drills and a lot of trainers/teachers do this as a drill where you hold your guard up for a decent amount of time or do continuous punches the point of it is "don't drop your guard". Be ready to do a lot of practicing in front of a mirror. Part of boxing is all about mistakes you need to correct yourself and looking in the mirror is part of this. You will be doing a lot of punches and stances in front of mirrors for quite sometime so you can visualize what you are doing and see your stances and punches. Practice shadow boxing. This is pretty much where you practice boxing by yourself and practice your stances and punches as if you were against an opponent (refers to you essentially practicing against your shadow on a wall but you don't need to do that). Also you will be training on a variety of bags so you should start working on practicing that if you have the opportunity too (such as speed bags which may take some time to get the hang of) but if you can't practice on bags before you start boxing don't worry you will get a lot of practice in.|||Find a local boxing gym and join up... Look it up on Google... Hopefully you do not have a glass jaw or you can kiss boxing goodbye...Find a good coach..train hard and learn the techniques ..if its your thing then you will do well... If not its a useful skill to learn...
